  • Family park set over 50 acres on a hilltop overlooking Widemouth Bay
  • A short drive from the surf schools and beach at Bude
  • Free heated pool, free wifi, clubhouse, kids' club and bar
Free! The price of zilch is what you’ll pay to keep the kids happy at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park a few miles from Bude, which is bound to result in wide-mouthed grins for all concerned... This large and lively family park has kids’ clubs run by the cunning Foxy, free evening entertainment by the Stripey Coats, crazy golf to go loopy at and an indoor heated pool, which are also…free. As is the wifi in the clubhouse. Huzzah. Widemouth Bay Caravan Park’s location is also pretty smilesome: on a hilltop overlooking the Cornish countryside and the fab Widemouth Bay with its three miles of sand. There are over 50 acres to lose yourself in around the park and pretend you never have to go home, with the takeaway, well-stocked shop and tasty meals at the bar keeping you sorted for nosh and a launderette looking after the essentials. Looking for yet more things to do on site? Challenge the kids on the amusements or show them how to hustle on the pool table – letting them beat you should result in even more wide smiles…

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: I traveled on my own with two kids 9 & 2 years old. The location was beautiful although we traveled in April so it was really windy and had rain too. You could see the sea from our pitch. The evening entertainment was really good.

Disliked: Unfortunately due to the weather the pitches was muddy. But obviously not the sites fault. It’s a really hilly site so as much as it was lovely when you have two kids and wanting to use the laundrette it was a hike up hills to get to and from the laundrette and to the club house. There probably was things to do near by but you would have to use a car as it wasn’t walkable with two kids and one in a push chair.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site was clean and tidy the showers were nice and clean. The on site shop was well stocked. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Disliked: We were told upon arrival that we to book 24 hours in advance to use the pool we were only staying one night. The food in the restaurant was very basic. The touring site was water logged and difficult to get the camper van in and out where the grass was the pitches were hardcore but it was so wet couldn’t use the ground sheet.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nice site with a great view. No wifi apart from club house but looks like boosters fitted so maybe in the future. Very boggy but not there fault possibly could do with fresh gravel for hard standing pitches to help with this issue. Cold water only in new shower block on first day but sorted on second. The older shower block had lovely warm showers. Very clean toilets. Food in club house basic but fine as a takeaway. Didn’t use the club house or pool but all looked clean and staff friendly. Shop stocked usuals and reasonable priced. Nice little outside shower for dogs which was very handy after coastal path walk. Again not there fault but visiting cars speeding around but by looks of it new road in parts laid so maybe awaiting more speed bumps.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: An attractive, not over crowded, site - close to the sea front. We had a very good time at Widemouth Bay; despite the rainy weather. There was plenty to do with great activities for our young grandchildren (3 and 6 years), especially in the early evening. All staff were 'on-message' and most helpful. Special mention to Ben, the Touring Warden, who help us out getting on-pitch and with lots of information. All facilities were very clean indeed and water points are well placed, close to pitches. The club house venue was clean and modern, with reasonably priced food and large portions. When the WiFi goes live at the pitches, in addition to the club house, that will be a significant help. We will be returning.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Children’s entertainment in the evening was good, engaging and got two tired kids involved. Toilets clean and well lit.

Disliked: Camping and touring pitches right at top of site. Significant distance away from main entertainment, site felt geared up to sell static caravans (holiday homes) so these were given priority location. The standing itself was underwater, the main hard standing had very little gravel on so mud was everywhere and the second you stepped off it to access the back of the vehicle your foot was underwater. Similar story for connecting electric hook up. With recent weather I expect it to be wet underfoot but it was ridiculous. Definitely some work required to improve drainage. Arcades were very limited and felt like an after thought, ticket machine didn’t count tickets properly and although we visited 10 mins after opening, it clearly hadn’t been cleaned for some time. When visiting the main entertainment centre for food in the evening “drifters” the food seemed to be run by a separate company, very limited menu and made to queue for significant period of time at alternative location whilst staff walked by. No signage to indicate this and quite frustrating. Main bar was reasonably priced. Overall facilities didn’t feel very up to date or clean in main area. Site feels like it could do with some investment to bring it up to a proper standard.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location - was very close to Bude Food- was good and they do take away

Disliked: -It was an absolute mud pit. This was not just from rain but from very poor drainage. -The ground was hard, so hard it was impossible to put the pegs into for the awning. -you can’t use the swimming pool unless you book - you must book in advance in person at the pool. so when your there for just 2 days like us it’s not possible. Had 2 very disappointed children

Local attractions

Widemouth Bay is where you’ll find the surf: if you’re new to launching yourself happily into the waves there are surf and bodyboarding schools dotted all around here and Bude, and Newquay is within 50 minutes' drive. Bude less than 10 minutes by car has a couple of excellent beaches: Summerleaze, to have a dip in the sea pool at the bottom of the cliffs and to bag a beach hut for hire so you can pretend for one fleeting afternoon that it’s your very own, and Crooklets, which you can reach by a short stroll from Summerleaze Down. Both beaches, and the sea pool at Summerleaze, are lifeguarded. The staff at Widemouth Bay Caravan Park recommends a car to see the best of Cornwall, but you won’t have very far to drive to reach most of the main hotspots: the Eden Project is about 50 minutes away, and Tintagel, legendary home of King Arthur and Merlin, is just along the coast.
