Camping pod

Liked: First off, I stayed in a glamping "pod" on the site, not one of the static caravans. I chose this as an alternative to staying in a hotel for a business trip and really enjoyed it. The site was beautifully well tended and everything looked like it was brand new. For the first 2 nights in the pod, I was the only pod occupant so the area of the site was really quiet, and even when a couple more were occupied for my last time I'd not have known they were there. The pod was beautifully clean, the bed was comfortable and having en-suite was a treat. There's no bar or clubhouse on site (though it looked like there might have been a pop-up bar in a horsebox in high season) which contributed to the relaxed and chilled nature. Would I stay again? Definitely if I have the chance.

Disliked: Being realistic, the pod worked well for me using it as I did. There were a couple of things that were a bit of a design niggle and a couple of things that need attention. From the design perspective, whilst it's obviously not a big space, it's worth being aware that there's not really anywhere to put food other than in the fridge, and whilst there's some hanging space there's nowhere else to put clothes. There is room to put a suitcase at the end of the sofa, so as long as you're happy to live out of the case rather than unpack you'll be fine. When cooking, there's no extractor, so it makes sense to open the main doors and the en-suite window to get a through draft and take away the smell from the cooking. Great on a warm evening, not so great during Storm Agnes... The cooking facility is good if compact, but care needs to be taken washing up, partly because the draining board is tiny (understandably), but also because the clothes hanging is right next to the sink so care needs to be taken to avoid splashing. The cupboard for the pots and pans, and the crockery storage is right down at floor level and is one of the areas that gets accessed a lot if you are self-catering. Fine if you are young and flexible; regrettably I am neither so struggled. In terms of things that needed attention, the shower in my pod didn't drain as quickly as it filled so could only be used for a very short time to avoid it overflowing. I reported this but it wasn't resolved, and the swelling of the skirting in the en-suite suggested that it was a long term issue. The furniture on the decking was a nice touch, but the paint was flaking away and the slats were rusting. Not ideal for a location close to the sea. Value wise, I reckon it was ok. The local Premier Inn would have been cheaper, but that wouldn't have had the cooking facilities or the lovely environment. The plumbing could do with a bit of a tweak and the external furniture updating, but nothing in my dislikes would stop me staying again.

Camping pod

Liked: We stayed here last weekend for my 30th, the site was beautiful & peaceful, reception team were lovely and the pod was perfect for our 3 night stay. Close to Bude and lots of other sites we found it great value for money for the pod which has a big bathroom inside and cooking facilities ( some sachets of tea, coffee, sugar, long life milk + cleaning pack which included 2 x bin liners, washing up sponge liquid) We also paid £12 for a 4 day Wi-Fi pass in the pod. We would definitely stay in the pods if we ever visit the area again.

Disliked: Coming home!

Camping pod

Liked: The whole site was very well kept, pods were spaciously set out, Inside was very well equipped and clean, everything you need, Bed was fine and comfy sofa. unfortunately the weather was hotter than we expected so the pod was very hot. Would recommend this site for a relaxing stay. We took a fan for the hot weather.

Disliked: Only the one small window when the weather is really hot, ok otherwise, not having a small shop , but we went out of holiday time so driving to get anything was not a problem.

Local attractions

The sandy beaches of Bude - Sandymouth, Summerleaze, Crooklets et al - are just five minutes away, and the beauty of this stretch of coast means it's ideal for outdoorsy pursuits of every kind, from surfing, sailing and windsurfing, to fishing, golfing and birdwatching. Walkers and cyclists shouldn't miss the chance to explore the Camel Trail, which runs for 17 miles through some of the area's most spectacular scenery. When it comes to day trips, you can tick off a considerable number of Devon and Cornwall's must-sees: King Arthur's pad at Tintagel, the global greenery of the Eden Project, the cobbles and donkeys of Clovelly, gorgeous country estates such as Lanhydrock or Hartland Abbey, and a little further afield, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth. For family fun, try the Blue Reef Aquarium (just one of an excellent range of child-friendly attractions in Newquay), the animal antics of the Big Sheep, or the popular Crealy Adventure Park.
