General

  • Family-run farm site
  • A mile from the beaches and town centre of Bude
  • Animals to feed and a shell craft studio on site

If you're staying close to Cornish beaches, you might want to do something with your seashells. Such is the state of affairs at Atlantic Camping near Bude, a site so family-friendly it's set up its own shell craft studio for small (and big) sorts to craft their foraged shells into ornaments or use them to decorate bits and pieces like pots, mirrors and picture frames.

Atlantic Camping is a family-run farm site set within 26 acres of farmland, a mile from the surfing beaches of north Cornwall's Bude. The farm entrance is set directly on the Atlantic Highway (the A39, the main road past Bude) so is easily accessible to all vehicle types, but the site part is set well back from the road on the other side of the farm: no traffic noise here.

The planted-out pitches are set among two and a half acres of well-mown grass, with a climbing frame and ball game area for the kids. Atlantic Camping is home to chickens, turkeys, geese, sheep and alpacas; families are welcome to walk around the farm, or to take one of the walks straight out of the farm to local farm tracks and onwards.

Amenities include a washing-up area with four sinks, and a toilet and shower block with six showers and seven toilets, including a disabled toilet and one with baby-changing facilities.

The pubs, restaurants and attractions of Bude town centre are a 20-minute walk from the farm: bring a torch if you're coming or going at night.

Campsite was lovely and the pitches were pretty flat, the toilets and showers were clean and worked well. Staff were lovely and charged our phones for us in reception when we had no other way to charge them

    Disliked:

The top showers were constantly cold so had to walk to the bottom ones, you can also hear the A road quite loudly when trying to sleep. A quick drive from Bude beaches but not really able to walk due to the hills

Absolutely beautiful site , pleasantly surprised on arrival, shell craft studio is amazing , staff always available and willing to help. Very clean toilets and showers just wear flip-flops in shower cubicles.

    Disliked:

Cockerells on the farm are very annoying as they can wake you from 4am but you do get used to it. We were kept awake one night as the were mowing the field for the crops at a ridiculous hour , but they had to cut it before ot rained.

Very clean and tidy site despite the amount of people using the minimal toilets and showers, they were always clean and had ample supply of cleaning products. Great idea to provide brick for bbqs to prevent destroying grass.

    Disliked:

Lack of toilets, showers and hot water. Toilets with large gaps in the doors allows for little privacy. Loads of toilet paper only the dispenser made it a loss when the paper wouldn’t come out.
Sparse washing up facilities with no shelter should it rain. Again lack of hot water is an issue here.

Love this site. Far enough out of town to avoid the crowds. Some great walks nearby. Huge pitches divided by shrubs, bushes and trees that gives great privacy. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. North Cornwall Motorcycles is nearby if you're a biker !!

Really relaxed vibe with palm trees separating the rows of tents. Nice children's playground and a few farm animals can be seen through a fence.

30mins walk to Bude through an industrial estate and residential area.

Clean toilets and showers. Small shop

    Disliked:

The pitches were quite narrow meaning you were pretty close to your neighbours front to back. We were lucky we had a quiet time and our neighbours were great

Toilets/showers at the far end of the field are not as good as the ones closest to reception and there are only 3 sinks for washing up. The showers are pretty small and need more hooks / shelves for clothes.

Children are not allowed to play football in the camping areas and are not allowed to be left unattended in the playground

What a wonderful little find! Having an only child it’s very important to find a child friendly site and Atlantic Camping certainly was. There’s a secure play area which was a great way for my little boy to find friends. The facilities are nice and clean and I found it a very friendly site. Unfortunately my son was poorly and unable to do the shell studio but the lady running it was great and let me take all the bits back to the van so he could complete in his own time. There are also some lovely people walks and the nearby beaches were great.

Quiet site, near beaches but far enough away to be away from the crowds.
Toilets were basic but very clean and tidy.
Never really saw a member of staff except in passing, but didn’t need too as everything was explained in the email. Excellent stay, would probably go again.

    Disliked:

No idea where to empty grey water so had to tip it in chemical toilet disposal sight.
No one that worked on the sight seemed to know either.
Grass was extremely soft and I imagine it would be a nightmare towing off the caravan in wet weather.

Local attractions

The beaut beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine.

The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling.

In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps, a pint, lunch or pasty before tackling the local stretch of the also-famed South West Coast Path, from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…?

Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too: ask the Atlantic Camping team for its top tips.
