Gorgeous photos of the farm and natural environment

General

  • Well-maintained, nature-rich site with fishing lakes
  • A 15-minute drive from Chichester and 20 from West Wittering beach
  • On the edge of a farm with access to South Downs walking trails

Into hols where you can ditch the car and wander merrily into the countryside along hours and hours’ worth of walking trails? Then sort a stay in the South Downs National Park at Newbarn Lakes Camping, a spot in West Sussex around 15 minutes’ drive from Chichester.

Plonked on the edge of a working farm in nature-rich surrounds, the site is close to three villages (each with a pub for eats and drinks) and five minutes or so from the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Not that you need to go far for activities… This farm park allows coarse fishing at its ponds (organise in advance by getting in touch with the site on the email info provided in your booking) and has a large lake.

Fancy dips in the sea as well? Wing your way to West Wittering beach (20 minutes) for days by the water. Other places of interest in the local area include Bosham, the Goodwood Motor Circuit (15 minutes) and Arundel Castle (half an hour), to name a few.

The site is a stripped-back sort of spot with running water for washing facilities and a hose for cold showers (please note that there are no hot showers here).

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Very basic facilities- 4 portaloos and just one shower (cold water only).
Told to phone before arrival for pitch number but went straight to VM

From the manager...

Hello thank you for staying with us recently. Im sorry you don't feel you had a good stay, however our advert states that we have a cold shower & no hot water, and that we have porta-loos.

My apologies over the phone, but we had signal issues that weekend.

The site is pretty and green. It is very near a lovely pub, which has friendly staff and good food.

There are some nice walks in the area around the campsite, for example the walk to Racton Ruin, which is not very long and there is an alpaca farm within walking distance. Also, Arundel Castle isn't too far, which is a great day out.

We were provided with a slab of concrete to cook on, to protect the grass and steady the cooker, which we found to be very useful. There was also a bucket for putting out any stray sparks, which we were also thankful for, as there were high winds during our stay.

    Disliked:

After we had booked, we realised that the "shower facilities" listed on the website consist of a cold water hose in a field. At a glance, it is hard to tell that this is what you are going to get. We have no problem not washing for a few days, but to advertise as having shower facilities is a bit of a push.

Directions to the campsite were not very easy to follow and when we called the owners, lost, there was an automated message saying the phone was off. We didn't know whether or not we could enter through the farm as there were conflicting instructions.

The ground was very uneven in places and really slopes towards the back of the field we stayed in. We heard others complaining about the unevenness of the ground as well.

There is one skip for mixed recycling and non-recyclable waste. We were wondering who would sort through that, so that it could be recycled, as surely it is all contaminated.

The portaloos started to really smell by the day we left and they had run out of toilet paper. The hose for drinking water produced cloudy, sometimes warm water.

From the manager...

Thank you for coming to stay with us. Im sorry your stay wasn't as positive as it should have been.

The shower was listed in the description as being a garden hose with cold water, we have not advertised this incorrectly.

I apologise for you not being able to get hold of me, I was having trouble with the phone that weekend, but I did provide a video showing how to enter the farm, and navigation from the main road to the campsite, which was emailed to you prior to your arrival.

The waste is taken from the campsite to a depot where it is sorted into landfill and recycling.

Place is very calm, beautiful area to walk around. Pretty big pitches with baskets for water and stones to put under BBQ. Many points with drinkable water.
Owner is very nice and helpful, keep place clean and checking on everything everyday.

    Disliked:

There is only one gate to walk out from the campsite but it's locked so everyone have to go through bushes. There could be made small gate.
The other down side is that you have to pay by cash on site.

From the manager...

Thank you very much for your feedback from your recent stay, Im so pleased you had a good stay.

We are hoping to put in proper showers & toilets for next year and also arrange a payment system so you can pay by card prior to arrival, look out for further information!

I stayed over the last BH weekend. As it was busy I liked the generous well spaced pitches. I arrived after heavy rain that would have puddled in lots of sites, but the ground there was so good even the car track mud was gone through the Next day. Drains perfectly. Even with lots of others the well thought out layout meant you always felt well spaced. The customer service from Dee is totally off the scale, from the amazing informative welcome email pack, to a pre chat on the phone to discuss my pitch tents needs, to her checks each day for a chat and to check all was ok were spot on. This is definitely a site I will revisit and recommend

    Disliked:

It is situated behind a quite quiet industrial area. It didn’t bother me as only a gentle background hum at worst but some might like to know.
