  • Quiet West Sussex wild camping site near the village of East Dean
  • A 15-minute drive to main Goodwood Estate; Chichester 25 minutes
  • In the South Downs National Park, with access to South Downs Way
Setting off for strolls in the South Downs National Park is splendidly easy from Newhouse Farm Wild Camping. This quiet off-grid wild camping site is part of the Goodwood Estate, and it has footpaths running directly from the farm to the South Downs Way and other parts of the network of trails that run through this scenic part of the world. The farm makes a lovely place for a peaceful rural break in the West Sussex countryside, with pitches spread around the perimeter of a large field that's got plenty of space in the middle for chilling out or playing games. There are gorgeous views of the national park landscapes all around, and clusters of trees on site giving a home to local wildlife. It's a wild camping setup here, but you’ll have access to toilets (although please note no showers or hot water). Dogs and kids are welcome, and campfires and barbecues are permitted to help you cook and keep warm by night. And you may well need that warmth, as you’re likely to want to sit out for as long as possible, looking up at the starry displays in this International Dark Sky Reserve. The main Goodwood site is about 10 to 15 minutes' drive away, so this is a handy place to stay if you're heading to an event there. Closer to home is the village of East Dean, just under two miles away, which has a good food pub.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The site was tucked right out of the way up a fun track. The field is massive, which meant choice for where to pitch. We were the only ones in the whole site for our stay which was just amazing considering where it is!! Owners leave you to it. Swing by in the morning to say hi. Really lovely people.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Utterly peaceful and relaxed site. Beautiful surroundings and views. Rachel is lovely and super informative pointing out the lovely walks from site. The surrounding woods are full of wildlife - loads of deer to see if you’re quiet. The badger faced sheep up on the South Downs Way are gorgeous. Loads of great walks in the area and very well signposted. Fire pits for hire and the best value wood - never got such an enormous bag of firewood!! The track to the site is extremely long and bumpy but that just adds to the charm and the remoteness. It’s really well signposted all the way from the main road which was much appreciated. I cannot wait to return to this wonderful tranquil site.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The location was brilliant for us, a huge camp field surrounded by woodland from 3 sides, a great sunset view. Remote tranquil location. Live fire is allowed, with fire pits available to rent from the owner (logs are also available). There was no mobile network coverage - which I think was a bonus :-)

Disliked: It would be good to have some wash-up facilities for the dishes.

From the manager: Hi Marcin, Thank you so much for your lovely review. I am so pleased you enjoyed staying with us. It was such a pleasure having you and your lovely family to stay at the farm. Good news - I will be working over the winter to put a small washing up facility in place for next season. Hopefully see you again next year. Best always, Rachel :)
