General

  • Six acres of West Sussex fields based around a Wisborough pub
  • Friendly service and warm welcome
  • New bathroom block and a camp bar

A sixteenth century pub surrounded by six acres of inn estate and only 58 minutes from London... let us take you down Wisborough Fields in West Sussex's Wisborough Green. It's right on the edge of the South Downs National Park, minutes' walk from comely canals and close to also-comely English villages like Petworth and Midhurst.

The site is separated into five areas: the ancient apple garden, the private garden, the gated private field and two wildflower meadows, all surrounded by mature trees and hedges. There's also over an acre of kitchen garden to wander around – all the more to be knowledgeable about the ingredients of your meal later in the friendly pub dining rooms... ?

A new bathroom block covers the loo and hot shower essentials, and the camp bar will keep you sorted in beer and wine.

Pub on site serves nice food albeit it overpriced. Pitches are level but basic. Toilets and facilities basic but clean.

    Disliked:

Price, no welcome on arrival or information provided about the site and your stay. Staff did not seem to know what was going on- they were polite and friendly though.

Toilet/showers cean. Staff tried to be helpful.

    Disliked:

The grass was too long to pitch the tent as weather awful. Hook-ups hidden in the hedge. Potentially excellent site with a bit of time invested in it. We didn't stay.

The pub is great, with delicious food with two level camping fields. 21/06/2016

A great base to explore from. Flat fields, no marked or mown pitches, no pathways or hard standing or lights - just a nice place to pitch your tent or park your van. No notices. Simple. Lovely warm clean bathroom facilities with plenty of hot water.
    Great food in the pub.

    Disliked:

It is by a busy road so can be a bit noisy if you care. The bathroom has only one mirror at waist height, the shower heads are designed for giants- there are no shelves to put your stuff on, just not very carefully thought out despite being brand new when we visited. But very clean which makes up for a lot!

Loved the site, the fields where even for a change this can be hard to find. People left plenty of space between camping. No real markings for pitches. Food was amazing and the staff are so accommodating, really well educated on the drinks and food advice was fab. I cant eat large portions so they literally arranged special food for me. The Bar closes on a Monday keep that in mind.

    Disliked:

The electric hook up could be arranged a little better. Other than that very clean toilets and shower block. Your camping remember. Fields are never going to be the Ritz...

    The weather

    Disliked:

Arrived on a Friday afternoon in June !! Beautiful sunny day .. To find the owners no where to be found .. And the pub closed ! Was eventually (after knocking and knocking on the pub window ) met by a chef who told us 'something had come up ' fair enough these things happen , so found our own pitch , muddled through !
Long grass .. Cuttings everywhere .. Showers and toilets not cleaned in 3 days we were there , no signs as to where the chemical waste was or bins .
Visited the pub garden to be sat next to dog poo on the grass !
Packed up on the Monday another sunny day in June and thought we would have a shandy before heading off to find the pub closed again .. Told by a maintenance man they close on a Monday due to no chef ! Then saw a sign saying closed for maintenance ? Not impressed ! £70 for 3 nights ! Not even a hello or goodbye !

The idea the pub was so close. Excellent food. Staff all friendly.

    Disliked:

Although the shower block is new there were only two showers and two loos in the ladies. I felt the shower block and loos should have been cleaned out at least twice to three times a day due to the volume of ladies using them.

The food was the best. We couldn't fault it. The staff were excellent. The customer service also could not be faulted.

    Disliked:

Not the pubs fault but a huge motor home with loud people drinking and playing music until 2am was annoying.
Other than that we cannot fault the place.

Local attractions

This part of West Sussex is lovely locale and is crammed with things to see and do, such as the county's stately homes and historic houses, busy market towns, old and pretty villages, and – natch – the splendid Sussex seaside.

The South Downs National Park, chalk hills of about 260 square miles stretching across the coast, is only a mile from Wisborough Fields. Many a hike is to be had here, including the local stretch of the South Downs Way from Billingshurst east to Eastbourne or west to Winchester, and the coastal walks around the white cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head .

Family adventures at Fishers Farm Park are easily accessible from the site and should, we firmly say, be enjoyed by family members of all ages; at nearby Horsham, take the crew to stalk each other through the violet labyrinth of the local paintball centre, or to the 90 acres of Chesworth Farm.

Also nearby is Petworth Park, a National Trust mansion with arty works by the likes of Turner and Blake, and a 700-acre landscaped park with the biggest herd of fallow deer in England.
