Bluebell Shepherd's Hut: The hut in the woods (photo added by manager on 12/10/2022)

General

  • Adults-only shepherd’s hut in a private one-acre woodland
  • In the South Downs National Park, 20 minutes’ walk from wild swimming
  • Outdoor shower, hammocks, firepit, barbecue and kitchenette on site

Heading to the South Downs National Park, an International Dark Skies Reserve? Bluebell Shepherd’s Hut has exclusive use of a one-acre, fenced woodland in the national park. It’s alongside a Woodland Trust meadow and there’s a 500-acre ancient beech forest on the other side of your private chestnut fence (what a spot for wanders and picnics).

Down a narrow lane and over a little stream, this is a wildlife haven indeed. Expect birdsong, hazel and oaks, rare plants and fungi, birds, wildflowers, orchids and creatures like deer and buzzards. There’s also a not very well-known wild swimming hole on the river Arun 20 minutes’ walk away down a track.

The adults-only hut has been hand built and kitted out with a capsule kitchen, which has a two-ring electric hob (which can be taken down to the firepit area with an extension lead), a toaster, kettle, fridge and a Moroccan sink (there’s a hot-water tap too). Walk for miles in all directions, then shower off in the hot outdoor gas shower, which has log walls, a timber roof and monogrammed robes, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer provided.

Being wifi free means you’ll get some true quality time. Eat alfresco-style on the table and bench under the tall oak. There are two firepits, one with a barbecue, and wood provided. Other facilities include a pong-free composting loo with its own library, off-road parking, a cosy woodburner, an electric oil-filled radiator, a desk and a four-foot bed with a memory foam mattress and high-quality bed linen.

Expect some snacks upon arrival, but for more supplies, just head to Fittleworth’s community shop, which has a deli and local produce (10 minutes’ drive). Wisborough Green (five minutes) has two pubs, a tearoom, village green and a post office. The owners’ house is a short walk away if you need them and they have a cocker spaniel who’s happy to make friends.

Please note

Guests under the age of 25 are not allowed on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

The woodland paths are very uneven, but the site will provide two torches. It is recommended that you bring a headtorch.

Private, pretty and well organized hut with all that you need, including hammocks if you want to chill or plenty beautiful and full of blackberries walks around. Maddie the dog's owner it's also a huge cute, well behaved and funny company. A perfect city break to enjoy our first wedding anniversary ❤️

We absolutely loved staying at Bluebell! I'll be honest, I was unsure at first as my husband had booked it so we could recharge our batteries and escape for a few days !! It was brilliant, we loved Bluebell and all the extra touches and goodies when we got there. The bed was super comfortable and so cozy ! The shower area was amazing, we loved showering outside and the addes bonus of bathrobes supplied. Even the compost loo was brilliant! Maddy the spaniel was a huge hit with us and we loved her visits throughout the day and evening, she especially liked the fire we lit in the evenings!! All the extra touches that Jane had thought of were amazing. We will definitely be returning for a 2nd visit.

This was the most RELAXING weekend we have ever had. No one around apart from the beautiful dog Maddy. Everything that you needed , no frills needed. We sat and relaxed and chatted. We enjoyed the space and nature.
The hut was everything you could want. Again no need for anything extra. The bed was comfy. It was clean and inviting. It packed so much in but still had enough room.
The fire pit area was decked out. Tables and chair blending into nature. The pit was perfect to cook on , that was my husbands favourite part. You can sit and chat and watch the birds and stars with no interruptions.
The shower and loo were a short walk away. Hot water and a lovely space to wake up in. The loo was perfect and it all just blended in.
Jane and her family were welcoming and they would have done anything to make sure our stay was perfect. Little card and treats were a lovely touch. Maddy the spaniel is the secret weapon I think. With little visits that make you smile.
We will be back. It was a space to stop and be in. No wifi (but some signal) , no people and just beautiful surroundings was perfection

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by the host, we were left some treats in the hut which was a nice touch. Such a beautiful shepards hut perfectly decorated, every little detail had been thought of. Bluebell shepards hut was very comfortable and cosy, we enjoyed the evenings sitting next to the firepit listening to the owls and taking in the surroundings. The outside shower was amazing and a lovely experience, the area was very private, clean, and well equipped for cooking and relaxation. Plenty of nice walks nearby, we also met some beautiful horses, Maddy the dog was an added bonus, she popped over to see us throughout the day which we loved. I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone who loves nature, relaxation, and natural beauty, we hope to be back very soon.
