General

  • Farm site with spectacular views of the Surrey countryside
  • Wildlife haven: spot species from the site
  • Barbecues allowed

'Red sky at night, campers’ delight?' That might not be exactly how the saying goes, but you won’t give a hoot when goggling at the gorgeous scarlet sunset at Osney Lodge Farm.

Plonk yourself down on a camping chair on this peaceful spacious site and gape about you at the pitch-perfect views… remembering to stay very still so you won’t frighten off any of the rabbits, foxes and occasional deer that wander around the site, not to mention the resident buzzards cawing above…

Once you can make yourself move and the kids are clamouring to be fed, fire up the barbie for supper: self-contained barbecues and raised fires are A-OK here, and the farm sells self-contained burners if you haven’t brought your own kit.

Pitches at Osney Lodge are grass and have modern amenities: chemical waste disposal, fresh drinking water and separate toilets for ladies and gents.

If you’ve forgotten anything else or run out of essential gear, Osney is a mile down the lane from one of the biggest camping centres in the south-east for easy stocking up. And don't miss the ever popular campsite buggy which makes its way around the site two or three times a day to sell ice lollies, soft drinks, kindling and logs – and a tasty selection of cider and real ales personally tested and selected by the owner: how highly considerate.

The park is only eight minutes away from the Jolly Farmer pub for traditional beer and cider and a five-minute drive to the seventeenth century Fox and Hound for some of the best pub grub around. Once you get off your camping chair, that is...

Very nice and friendly site. The facilities are limited, but that is part of the appeal and what made me want to come here.
Owners are very helpful. There is a bit of aircraft noise in the morning, but not too intrusive and not unexpected.
I will be very happy to come here again.

Nice big site but a better experience is had with a caravan than tent. 18/07/2017

Big open field, lots of space, nice and peaceful. Lovely views. Served us very well for a nice quiet relaxing evening watching the sunset

    Disliked:

Big potholes at entrance to the field, big enough to make the stabiliser disconnect from the caravan, but no real problem if you check your hitch again before setting off. Water pressure is very low but this was clearly sign posted by the drinking water. No grey water disposal. Toilet block not the cleanest but this is not the sites fault as you could see it had been cleaned it was just the people using it that did so with little respect (I never understand why people think it is acceptable to throw used toilet paper on the floor rather than put it in the toilet, I'm sure they don't do it in their own home!!). No showers. None of this was a problem for us as we had our caravan so had our own facilities so could fully enjoy the tranquility of the site.

From the manager...

I,m glad you enjoyed your visit and plan to return. Dont get me started about toilet paper etc ...drives me mad !
We do have a dedicated flushing
disposal point for grey water:..right next to the loos !!
Wasnt aware of the problem at the field entrance,i will go and check it now

Local pub jolly farmer was a nice find

    Disliked:

Toilets were horrendous, no locks, no loo roll and one totally blocked in the ladies with only one tap working (with a little dribble of water) to wash your hands. Men's toilets were Grimm too.
No one around to book us in and no answer on the two mobile numbers provided for you to call when no one is available to book you in.

From the manager...

I do agree one lock was missing...someone actually unscrewed it and took it home! Replacement ordered.
As discussed elsewhere, despite REGULAR servicing , we are dependent on our guests behaving as most humans do!
Dont understand the communication problem. The numbers given are my and my wifes mobiles, and one of us is always about. Best blame Vodaphone or our neighbouring Aliens.

    Spacious area with lovely views
    Easy arrival if pre-booked
    Reasonable price
    Easy to reach from London

    Disliked:

Some rowdy customers unfortunately.... not sure if a night time "patrol" would help?
    Toilets not in great state
Some aircraft noise, but that was to be expected and not serious

From the manager...

I,m very glad you enjoyed our campsite, and very sorry you had some noisy neighbours, BUT ....both my and my wifes mobile numbers are clearly provided, together with a request that you report ANY disturbance. We always attend ,at once. We never identify the complainants. Excessive noise is not tolerated, and we have an overall no music policy. We drive around the campsite several times a day,and up to 23.00hrs at night. It is SO rare that we have a problem, but it needs guests to help us help them!

Exactly what the advert said. Saw a few negative posts on pitch up which we couldn't understand. The campsite is a huge field, offering many different types of pitches - shadey, open, secluded, social..... toilet block is basic, but serves the purpose well. Dirty water disposal, plenty of rubbish points and drinking water available. The site is sufficiently away from the main roads to make it feel secluded, but well within striking distance of the said main roads to be a perfect spot to visit lots of places in the area.

The site is quiet and relaxed, the rule of no loud music was well observed by all camping at the site.

Also a brilliant spot to watch the planes land and take off! Plus could hardly hear them.

For the price paid you cannot go wrong.

    Disliked:

    Nothing.

    Disliked:

    Toilets were poor and unclean

From the manager...

We do check the toilets at various times every day,and they are always left clean.
However if a guest uses them a few minutes later and leaves them dirty,it gives the impression that they are not maintained.
I wonder if these people leave their own loos like it ?
We will continue our policy of regular inspections and hope to minimise any issues

Local attractions

Make Lingfield village your first stop when you leave the farm, to amble around the sixteenth and eighteenth century buildings as part of a Surrey history tour that can also take in the Old Mill windmill an hour’s walk from Osney, and Leeds Castle, Penshurst Place and Hever Castle reachable from a quick trip in the car.

Also recommended is saying ‘Oh yes’ to Chartwell, Winston Churchill’s family home, where the kids can muck around in the Marycot playhouse built for the youngest Churchill daughter.

The kids will also go gaga for Godstone Farm & Playbarn in the Surrey hills, where littlies can help to feed the pigs and ducks, pet the rabbits and learn how to properly groom a pony before clambering on the tractors and trains, tackling the zip slides and getting lost in the mazes.

The British Wildlife Centre is recommended for bigger litties into their animals, as it has over 40 different native species to spot and events including keeper talks and photography workshops.

Other attractions in the area include Lingfield Park Racecourse, chuffing along in the countryside on the Bluebell Railway or getting active with countryside walks, sailing, kayaking, golf and fishing all nearby.
