General

  • Peaceful farm site near the North Downs
  • Less than an hour from London
  • Campfires allowed: buy farm produce to cook

'It’s not proper camping unless there’s a campfire,' as Prometheus said when he nicked Zeus’s fire for a singalong with some tent-dwelling ancient Greeks. The flame-loving trickster would have approved of Etherley Farm, where campers are free to get their embers blazing without reprimand (poor old Prometheus suffered a rather harsh punishment for his fireiness).

Caravans, campervans and tents are all welcome, with a free choice of location within the roomy field. The site has basic facilities including water, individual showers and a toilet block, but no electric hook-ups.

Although the poultry farm at Etherley isn't open to visitors, it's a different matter for guests, who can bag some of its mouthwatering produce for their barbie: chicken, burgers and sausages are all on sale (just drop the owners a line stating what you’d like when you book). Campers can also purchase wood for their fire on site.

Picked this place as it was the closest camping to Dorking and was cheap. Loved the turkeys and geese!

    Disliked:

Unable to use a shower throughout my stay as no water pressure and it was boiling hot, nobody in the farm shop to check-in with the morning after I arrived, a loud group of men that were singing and shouting until the early hours one night.

As much as the Turkeys added to the camping atmosphere.... it's very loud so be careful where you pitch your tent. Apart from that everything was great!

as first campers we found etherley farm a great place to stay. there was not to many campers when we got there mid week, and more campers arrived at weekend but it was still not to busy for our first time. it was not to noisy at night. with a sat nav i found the farm quite easy to found just had to a little drive to the turn after sat nav said we arrived. etherley is a good base if you want to visit surrounding areas by car and also london by train. this what we did as we had family near by.
