  • Family restaurant, entertainment venue and bar with Sky TV
Feeling a bit snarly? Nerves getting all gnarly? You could do with a trip to Marlie. Laidback Marlie Holiday Park is in a scenic rural setting close to the beaches of New Romney and Dymchurch, on the Kent coast. With a heated indoor swimming pool and plenty more stuff to keep the kids entertained, it could be just what the doctor ordered to restore your sense of calm… Younger guests can flit between the sessions in the Loopy kids' club, the indoor pool, amusements centre and adventure playground, plus of course all the general running about in the fresh air (arm them with a few carrots and send them off to make friends with the resident rabbits). If you want a break from the cooking, the park has a decent family restaurant; there’s also a bar with Sky TV, and an adjacent entertainment venue with evening entertainment. You can relax in the knowledge that all the basics are covered too: smartly refurbished showers and toilets; a shop (as well a big supermarket just minutes up the road); a launderette; and free wifi in the clubhouse. There, you’re feeling better already, aren’t you?

Camping pod

Liked: The location, the entertainment, the idea of the pods. Brilliant! Fun for kids! Swimming pool was excellent! Everything what needed it was there. Safe place for families.

Disliked: We we very disappointed with the cleaning. Unfortunately our pod wasn’t clean before we arrived. The previous customers left lots of rubbish ( bin full of trash, plastic bottles on the floor…and the was dirty bedding - just so sad to see it!) We are not the people who complain so just cleaned up by ourselves. But not good memories of it:-(

Camping pod

Liked: The pod was ample, clean and warm. Excellent value for money. For most of the time the toilets were clean. Warm showers. Well located.

Disliked: confusing parking situation, with pods 1 to 5 spots clearly identified, but not the rest of the pods.

Camping pod

Liked: Nicely pod at a good price and they placed me in one close to the shower block due to the bad weather. Good clean shower block area. A broom was a useful addition to the pod so I could keep the floor clear.

Camping pod

Liked: Place was clean and nice. They didnt had my reservation, but sorted very quick and we had lovely stay. Staff was very polite and helpful.

Disliked: Far walking from the seaside, but was my fault to check before i booked. Would be nice to have bins in a dish washing area, as after cleaning dishes there is no where to clean up sink. So always found rubbish in a sink.

Camping pod

Liked: The entertainment - the karaoke was a lot of fun, as was the bingo. Never had to queue for toilets/showers. Camping pod was so clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable. Lots of convenient parking, and the site’s closeness to the beach and other attractions. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Very minor issue, but the portion of chips that came with my burger was very meagre. But my son loved his pizza, and having a few less chips is not a big deal!

Camping pod

Liked: Outside space, closeness to the toilets and was very peaceful. Good location to various places.

Disliked: No signs where the drinking water was, glass outside the pod on the floor and could do with some hooks in the pod.

Local attractions

Buckets and spades are go, with a range of good beaches on the doorstep; try Littlestone and Dymchurch, or Camber Sands a little further away. You’ll spot the steam engines of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway puffing past; don’t miss a trip on this historic miniature railway, one of the best ways to explore the area. Other sporting pursuits on offer include excellent fishing at the Wylands Angling Centre, where there are 10 lakes to choose from; and a wide range of watersports, both on the nearby beaches and at a specially designed lake just inland (sand yachting, wakeboarding, jetskiing and more). Whatever your ages and stages, there’s no shortage of inspiration for a family outing. A 20-minute drive up the road is the fab Port Lympne Reserve, where you can bump along through herds of African wildlife in a safari truck and get up close to the gorillas in the Palace of the Apes; you’ll also see rhinos, elephants, lions, tigers and other ferocious beasts. Alternatively, go for a day out in Dover, to explore the White Cliffs and historic Dover Castle; a sedate saunter around spectacular Leeds Castle, potentially offset with an adrenaline-boosting high ropes adventure at the neighbouring Go Ape centre; a tastebud-tickling trip to the Biddenden Vineyard and Cider Works; a walk down memory lane at Yesterday’s World, or a foray to the Hop Farm near Maidstone.
