Ryde on! Fact fans might like to know that Ryde is the biggest town on the Isle of Wight, and that for the lazy/sweltered on a hot day, most of its highlights can be had within a teeny stroll of the pier. Which is a listed building and the oldest pier in Blighty. Fact.
And within a teeny drive from Ryde you can pitch up at Pondwell Camp Site in the nearby and rather upmarket village of Seaview, home of the Isle of Wight’s ‘millionaire avenues’ (someday a house here will be ours). Pondwell is a grassy park over 14 acres of level and slightly sloping land, and is another teeny stroll from the beach – well, the village is called Seaview, after all…
Peaceful Pondwell is laid out with plenty of open space for kids and puffing parents to run around in, and there’s a wooded playground visible from the tent area so you can keep an eye on the offspring when you collapse to the ground with a book. The grass pitches are for tents with no charge for awnings, pup tents or car parking next to your pitch. Arriving late? There’s a security officer on site at all times to welcome you to the park (please make sure you vacate your pitch by 12 noon on the day you’re leaving).
Amenities are well looked after, with free hot water, bathrooms and baby baths in the loo and shower areas, dishwashing facilities and a launderette. The site shop stocks foodie essentials and Calor gas as well as toys and games to keep the kids happy if it rains – or settle the family down in the TV rooms instead.
There are eateries in Seaview and an hourly bus outside Pondwell into Ryde, but if you’re wishing for more convenient cuisine go to the family-friendly Wishing Well pub on site, which dishes up top British grub for lunch and dinner.

It's now possible to make group bookings on Pitchup.com for up to 30 adults and 30 children.
As long as the 'one unit per pitch' rule is not highlighted on the pitch type information (please check this before completing your booking), you will be able to pitch your tents together on one booking.
If you are not satisfied with the results generated, try breaking your booking down for more options. For example, if you're a group of 10, enter five people for your initial search and book two pitches. Use the 'Special requests' box on the booking page to ask to be sited together when booking multiple pitches or accommodation units: the campsite or park will try to grant your request.
Before booking, please check the listing page for any group restrictions. These normally appear in a section titled 'Please note'. Please also check the restrictions on unit dimensions to ensure your unit - especially for a large party - is suitable for the space you will be provided with.
