General

  • Family park with plenty of organised activities
  • Indoor pool, bar and evening entertainment
  • Kids' club for children up to 11 years old

A lunchtime drink on the terrace of the Boathouse bar watching the white sails of the yachts zipping across the water, a hop and a skip down the leafy path to the beach for the afternoon, or a fun-filled night of live entertainment in the Showbar... there are many chances for relaxation at Thorness Bay Holiday Park in Cowes.

Whippersnappers will love whooshing down the slide into the indoor pool before trying out a bit of snorkelling and blading, and they may disappear for some time into the various kids’ clubs, which offer funtastic activities for kids up to 11.

The whole family can get stuck into a range of sports on the all-weather court, and during the organised sessions you could chance your arm at archery or even learn to wield a crossbow.

To complement the usual amenities, there’s a shop and laundry room, an outdoor playground for the little ones, amusements, darts and a pool table - and the occasional bingo session thrown in for fun.

    Disliked:

Toilets to far away , not clean , but not because of the cleaner, maybe needs deep cleaning or bleach . Also toilets were locked up for cleaning, which was silly as there was no other toilets on site. Entertainment was rubbish as well. Campsite pitch was too small. And we were not spaced enough apart from othere.

    Evening Entertainment for the children

    Disliked:

    Toilets
Men's shower cubicles not fixed to the floor. Most showers damaged or last only a few seconds per press. Limited areas to put clothes so they remain dry whilst showering.
Cleaning times seem to clash with when you want to shower. For us about 7-8am.

    Pitches
We had to move pitches as the first one was all lumpy from having a caravan on previously. Most pitches are on a slight hill.
Went as a group and weren't pitched together even though noted on booking and booking 3+ months in advance.

On site Chippy.... Food cold or under cooked. Even the pizzas. The staff are more like entertainment. They are unable to get orders correct and have no apparent system in place. We arrived at opening time and were served first but still had a 40 minute wait for our food.

    Nice location with lovely views.

    Disliked:

The touring field has several seasonal pitches. They are an unfortunate eyesore as overgrown grass surrounds the large caravans, many of which are inhabited by people who appear to be out at work during the daytime. Commercial vehicles are allowed on site.
Rubbish and recycling bins adjacent to toilet blocks allowed to overflow.
Really impressed with the chemical toilet emptying room, it had a hand wash basin and soap dispenser. However, after 9 days of being on site, the soap had ran out and was not replenished. It remained empty when we departed 5 days later.
Toilet block was clean and tidy until the site became busy at the start of the school holiday period when it became untidy and unkempt with no loo roll in cubicles.
On site restaurant was overpriced for mediocre food with a restricted menu upon first arrival. On site chip shop again overcharged for below average quality food.
    Wifi advertising but very expensive.
There was no service point for Motorhomes to drain waste water tanks into although not claimed to have in literature, it is usually expected on larger sites as this.

Going off camp for the day

    Disliked:

Our pitch was next to what I can describe a workers caravan, men came and went everyday and back at night in trucks, transits, quads, it was awful plus one of there dogs got out and did its business outside our awning then ran in the awning terrified and wouldn't come out, eventually one of the men came to fetch the dog which was absolutely terrified when he showed up. The toilet block isn't fit for public use, I had to clean the toilet before I used it, I had a shower which was just disgusting, hair and soap scum all over so I used our own touring caravan shower after that, we had towels stolen from outside our van, I could go on, all in all an awful stay and definitely won't be staying here again!

Disappointing camping site 31/07/2017

Facilities on the park like entertainment, play ground, small supermarket, laundrette and the location nearby the beach. Spacious pitches.

    Disliked:

Pitch management was a mess. The pitch assigned to us was already taken. This happened to a lot of people. No one seemed to know who was standing where and why.
The gate was open all of the time, so at night or in the early morning cars drove through.
Toilets and showers were not very clean. Shower doors couldn't close.
Hard selling of their caravans, not much love for campers.

Local attractions

Visitors will find lots of yachts and powerboats to drool over in Cowes harbour, and the town is also home to Osborne House, the country retreat of Queen Victoria and her brood. It’s well worth a nose around this magnificent house and its lovely gardens, and the Victorian afternoon teas aren’t half bad either...

Since the Isle of Wight is such a bijou island, it doesn’t take long to reach other top attractions such as Carisbrooke Castle, the posh pile where King Charles I was imprisoned, and the island’s heritage steam railway, which regularly runs themed events.

For those who fancy a change from the beach at Thorness Bay, the shallow waters at Colwell Bay beach, about 25 minutes away by car, are great for swimming, as well as watersports such as jetskiing and windsurfing.

Must see

  • Carisbrooke Castle (3.9 miles)
  • Osborne House (4.1 miles)
  • Isle of Wight Steam Railway (6.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Newtown Old Town Hall (2.3 miles)
  • Mottistone Manor Garden (6.4 miles)
