  • Family campsite at a Hampshire pub in the South Downs National Park
  • Petersfield 10 minutes’ drive and Isle of Wight ferry half an hour
  • Food and drink served Tuesday to Sunday; takeaways also available
What’s better than a camping holiday in the South Downs National Park? A camping holiday in the South Downs National Park with a pub attached, that’s what. You can get your feet under the table in the bar every night, which frees up plenty of time for you, the kids and any dogs to explore the undulating chalk downlands of the park by day. The well-kept camping paddock at the family-run, 17th-century Pub With No Name – one of Hampshire’s best-known pubs – is sheltered by tall trees and served by a shower block with loos, a washing-up sink and a reliable supply of hot water in the showers. As the site is in a remote rural area, the water pressure is temperamental; the team say the showers are always great, but the cold-water pressure occasionally drops in the taps and toilets. A range of real ales and delicious food are served in the restaurant and bar from Tuesday right through to Sunday; food service is between 12pm and 3pm, and then from 6pm to 9pm. There’s a terrace and beer garden outside for warmer days, and a roaring fire in the snug for when the weather needs a bit of help. Takeaways are also available as well if you prefer to eat back at your pitch. This is a friendly place, so families, couples, adult groups, dogs and solo travellers are all welcome.

If water( hot) could be provided, it would be ideal.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location was perfect... stunning night sky. Fire pits were available. The pub on the site is gorgeous.

Disliked: No water! Managed to get a dribble to clean my teeth. Showers were filthy but did have freezing cold water... really didn't fancy it.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The pub is great. Food was amazing. All the staff friendly. Showers and toilets clean and tidy.

Disliked: Water pressure a bit low in the shower and taps. Outside tap would be handy for filling water containers rather than trying to fill them up in the sink with a tap that dribbles. But these are minor things from an otherwise great place.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Perfect couple of days camping with friends. Lovely camping field with good basic facilities. Pub lovely. Laura was great at helping with all my silly questions prior to arrival. Would definitely return and recommend.

Disliked: Only slight negative was lack of washing up facilities and the water pressure of the showers but we knew this before we arrived from reading other reviews so don't let it spoil your visit.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: It was a lovely setting, the roads around were rather quiet so very peaceful on the first night. It was nice we were greeted on the first morning and told about the facilities available and the plans for what was to come.

Disliked: Drinking water was an issue, in a couple of ways. First is that you can only get it from the sink in the toilet block, so I could feel the small kettle but that was about it. Anything larger wasn't possible to get into the tap. The pressure of the water was also an issue, but manageable. I would expect as a minimum a tap outside and hope that is in the plans. The main issue I had was that on the Saturday night, the pub had an event on which meant very loud music playing until around 1am. I checked in at the pub, and nothing was mentioned, and the lady I met on Saturday morning didn't mention it either. It's not expected and wasn't advertised and really made the last evening quite miserable.
