General

  • Eco site in the Hampshire countryside
  • Within easy reach of both London and the south coast
  • Showers, toilets, bike hire and clear area for play

As little environmental impact as poss is the name of the game at Hampshire's Cedar Valley: this is a simple site for those who like camping deep in countryside but who still like their comforts such as showers, toilets and wash basins.

Cedar Valley is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, set deep in scenic Hampshire countryside but within easy reach of both London and the south coast. The South Downs Way is nearby for hikes.

Pitches at Cedar Valley are in a large grassy field near Bereleigh House, where you can roam the field and finding just the perfect place. There's also a designated mown area where kids can play football, fly kites and generally muck around to their little hearts' content: you might find they don't want to leaf...

Everything. The pitches were good sized, the ability to make a campfire was much appreciated and the firewood (available for £5) was excellent. Shame about the weather but that's not really the campsites fault! I would have no hesitation in recommending this site to friends and family, excellent stay here! Thanks to all the team!

Rustic, simple, rural, clean, trusting management.

    Disliked:

Tricky to find (we ended up in a convoy with another 2 cars all hunting for the site!)

Showers/loos are functional and are cleaned regularly, however they were quite busy and therefore were ready for each clean. They are quite basic compared to many other sites at similar (or cheaper) rates - if these were upgraded it would be amazing.
No hot water available for washing up at the only outside sink :(

Staff came round every day to check everything was ok and were really friendly.
Had staff phone number and could contact them any time if any trouble.
    How clean the facilities were.
It was really quiet couldn't hear the main road.
    Very nice views.
    Good dog walks.

    Disliked:

A young group pitched up at gone 11pm and were a little noisy.
If you have children which want to go and explore the woods, go earlier in the summer, as this time of year the pheasants had been released meaning the woods were out of bounds.

This is a beautiful location, seeing the stars on a clear night was spectacular.
The field is on a slope but it's easy to find a good pitch.
Very relaxed, staff were friendly, loos and showers clean enough but I'd recommend taking a loo roll as they ran out when we were there.

    Disliked:

We won't stay here again, simply because there is no curfew for noise. Ironically it was a family group who were inconsiderate, even to their own children!
I'd like to see one of the fields family friendly and one no curfew.

We stayed in the camping field top right as you go in. The pitching areas are very well kept. So quiet as well and some amazing walks to go around in the area. Toilets / bathrooms are all very clean and maintained regularly. Campsite staff also make you feel very welcome.

    Disliked:

Only that lighting battery in toilet / shower runs out easily as other people tend to leave the light on. (probably because the switch is in the female part of the toilets, moving this switch outside would be much more helpful.

Camping at Cedar Valley
We have 2 Campsites at Cedar Valley. The Paddock and The Meadow.

The Paddock
Enter through the main entrance to Cedar Valley signposted with green Cedar Valley signs.
Drive 300m down the farm track turn right into the campsite. Go ahead and pitch around the edge of the field.

The Meadow
The Meadow is not located through the Cedar Valley entrance!
If you are coming from the A272 you need to look out for the green Meadow sign on the right about 200m before the entrance to Cedar Valley. A sharp right turn and down a little steep slope, 100m and turn right into the campsite.
From East Meon please continue 100m past the Cedar Valley entrance and turn left down a little steep slope, 100m and turn right into the campsite.

Local attractions

Hire a bike from the Cedar Valley team and off you go: the site has six good strong mountain bikes (and helmets) which can be hired by the day at reception. Several decent tracks are on the estate itself or you can pedal off around the area's many lanes and bike routes.

If trotting's more your thing, ask the Cedar Valley team about the pony rides available in the surrounding countryside: both experienced and amateur riders can take their pick from three-hour rides through first-class woodland, or around the area's cross-country course.

More of a foot-based wanderer? Many circular walks are mapped out in the area so you can wander off to see where your feets might take you. The South Downs Way is close by: try the walk from Petersfield to Cocking, via Nursted Copse and Harting Down.
