General

  • Peaceful park in a South Downs green valley
  • Hidden away and far from traffic noise
  • With walking distance of a pub serving food

Despite its name, guests at are highly unlikely to be badgered by anyone during their stay... This simple and peaceful site near Petersfield in the South Downs National Park keeps its pitch numbers low, for maximum peace hidden far from traffic noise, in a lush green valley surrounded by lovely walks.

The on-site facilities are limited to chemical waste disposal and a drinking water supply, but it’s an easy walk to the village of West Meon, where there’s a pub that serves grub, an award-winning butcher and a village shop selling local speciality produce.

The pitches are grassy and fairly level; rally groups and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Please note

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

From the manager...

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. We would be delighted to welcome you again.
I note the low scores you have given us for Accommodation, Facilities and Wifi. As you say we are a basic site and I trust that we provided everything that we claimed to to a high standard. We definitely aim to provide a peaceful and pretty spot for those who want to get into the countryside and enjoy it.

It looks exactly as the picture above ,where we stayed. It was very beautifull,It is minutes away the Meon Valley Nature trail which was the old railway line and goes on for 9 miles.West Meon is a 20 minute walk past the disused station, through an old walkway past a couple of streams. There is a lovely local shop that you can get a paper, bread general stuff, then theres a butchers that is fabulous.A pub ,"Thomas lord,",really friendly, great food a bit pricey, but was worth it.We had a fatatastic time will be returning.

Liked the relaxed check in/check out and the flexible pitch so could tour with friends. Very peaceful site and dogs and children thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors. Very reasonable pitch rate and good pub and cafe within easy walking distance.

Ticked all the boxes for a tranquil night away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Liked the fact that Wifi not reliable at the pitch site but for those who can't switch off totally to life - walk to the top of the hill!

    Disliked:

Couldn't reserve the pitches which would be nice to do in the future.

Local attractions

The tree-lined former railway line that runs next to is an ideal starting point for rambles and cycle rides; a popular destination a couple of miles away is Old Winchester Hill, a nature reserve with an Iron Age Hill fort. is also very handy for the South Downs Way, for those who want to walk or pedal further afield.

The Watercress Line heritage railway, which runs from New Alresford to Alton, is another lovely way to explore the Hampshire countryside; or if you prefer to stay put, you could always park yourself in a scenic spot at the Moorhen Trout Fishery up the road.

For a fulfilling day trip, wend your way to winsome Winchester: if you’re lucky, you may catch the famous choir in action within the splendour of the 900-year-old cathedral; other visitor attractions in this charming and compact city include a range of excellent museums, castle ruins, and an Arthurian round table, plus fab restaurants and independent shops.

Chi-chi Chichester is another pleasant place to while away a day, or you could head to Portsmouth to take a harbour tour and visit the historic dockyards, where HMS Victory and the Mary Rose are among the tiptop naval exhibits on display.
