General

  • Spacious family campsite in the New Forest, set on a 500-acre farm
  • Next to a holiday village with pools, bike hire, restaurants and bars
  • Local pub within two minutes' walk

Friendly Folds Farm Camping in Fordingbridge is fairly fab... for it has miles of cantering, cycling and trekking trails direct from its turf in the heart of the New Forest, and you can bring your own geegee if you have one.

Other fab facts: it's dog-friendly and family-friendly down on the farm, as the team welcomes families with teeny tots, small sorts and canine campers to roam around its safely spacious site, all set in a secluded field away from busy roads and surrounded by woodland and open fields.

Folds Farm's amenities include free hot showers with a changing area, sink and mirror, flushing and well-maintained portaloo style toilets, three water standpipes, dishwashing sinks and free use of a freezer for ice packs – all facilities are lit at night. A breakfast and snack service is available at weekends and on bank holidays.

And another fab fact the fifth (perhaps this should have come first), the local pub is a footling two minutes' walk from the farm and you'll find many more trad New Forest inns within a ten-minute drive. Cheers.

And! The farm is next to Sandy Balls Holiday Village and farm guests are welcome to wander in and use the facilities there, like the heated indoor and outdoor pools, several play parks, bar and restaurant and bike hire point. A peaceful farm park with a pool and more play in easy proximity? How fab.

Met on arrival by a lovely lady who produced sweetie bags for the kids - what a lovely touch. For a simple site, the toilet and shower facilities were great. Plenty of hot running water for washing up too. Such a peaceful area but within a short walk of Sandy Balls if you prefer activities and entertainment and a lovely pub 2 mins up the road.
We will surely be back again next year.

    Disliked:

Not a complaint, but unfortunately we had a lot of rain during our stay and it would have been more comfortable if the washing up area was under cover. This did not in any way detract from our most enjoyable stay though.

We had an amazing time in the New forest and Folds Farm camping made it all the better! We stayed for three nights. The facilities were all very clean, the staff and owners would do anything to help - even a cup of tea at 8:30am was no problem! We hired a campfire which was a great way to spend the evenings with our teenage children playing cards and actually getting to know our kids again!! (No wifi or phone chargers) Bliss!!! We had our dog with us too which was no problem.
Fordingbridge was just down the road and is well worth a visit.. beautiful. We also visited Sandyballs and made use of their facilities - swimming, cycling etc.

Our group traveled from Houston, Texas to UK for Boomtown Fair. The nightly pitch fee was reasonable and we booked solely on the price. Our hostess, Victoria, recognized 5 adults traveling near Boomtown might have notions of wild party nights in mind and called after booking to ensure we knew the campsite was family-friendly. We assured her we simply needed a place to quietly retire at the end of the few days we planned to be in the area. When we arrived we were greeted warmly by Emma, who explained the amenities and accommodations. We settled in comfortably and spent one evening chatting and laughing with our hostesses and their wonderful, extended family. My daughter is a musician and Victoria asked her to perform a few songs one evening during a dinner outing featuring handmade, stone baked pizza. By the time we departed, we felt like part of the Folds Farm family. We highly endorse the site for friendly and peaceful holiday excursions.

Arrived and checked in only to be handed a bag of sweets for my grandson, - lovely gesture and kept him occupied while his mother and I set everything up.
The reception tent was stocked with all the essentials needed eggs, bacon, milk, ice cream, bread and of course sweets.
The owners/staff couldn't do enough to make sure everyone had what they needed and
For a "pop-up" site with just a 28 day licence I was really impressed - the portaloo style facilities - toilets and showers (hot when I had one although I did hear someone complain that they were not as hot as he'd like) were inspected several times a day, emptied every day and kept topped up with loo roll and hand gel, each loo had a battery light and a can of air freshener in it too!
Washing up area was supplied with brushes and washing up liquid.
Play area for the children had outdoor games and a bouncy castle was also there for the Saturday.
Friday nights had wood fired oven baked pizzas available on site to order and there were wood burning baskets available to hire with a good supply of logs at a reasonable price.

    Disliked:

Washing up water heater only worked for a few minutes then cut out
Site is very undulating and was full for the BH weekend but I found an area flat enough for the motorhome without too much trouble.

A very warm welcome from Victoria & team on arrival with the lovely touch of a bag of sweets each for our girls while we put up our tent. The campsite had a lovely family festival feel to it. We stayed for four nights including the bank holiday. Even when very busy the site had a lovely happy & safe buzz about it. Our girls spent a lot of their time riding around the field on their bikes - as did most of the other children! The staff on site were fantastic - friendly, full of local knowledge and an attitude of "if we don't have it we can get it for you". They even lent us some minnow nets! You can hire a fire pit from the site at £10 a night, then £7 for a big stack of logs/kindling/firelighters.
The portable loos & hot showers were kept clean around the clock.
From the campsite you can walk down to the river Avon or up into the New Forest. We found some great cycle routes there too. Watch out for the ponies, donkeys & cows!
The local pub at the top of the road is nice & the food is good with a good selection on their specials board.
Folds Farm is a great campsite for exploring the local area. We feel we only scratched the surface of it!

    Disliked:

    Having to come home :-(
Maybe an idea for the site to have a photocopy of local map highlighting the popular walks/trails/cycle tracks from the campsite for the numptys (like us!) who forget to bring one!

Local attractions

Fordingbridge is in a mighty handy Hampshire location, right in the New Forest but not too far a drive to day trips at the Jurassic Coast, Stonehenge and the beaches of Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset. Paultons Family Theme Park – yes, home to a certain pig named Peppa – is about nine miles' trot away.

In the New Forest, many folk like a look at Beaulieu, a very full (and fab) day out around Beaulieu village that includes the National Motor Museum, Palace House and Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey and the World of Top Gear.

Bucklers Hard, part of the Beaulieu estate, was once where many of Nelson's ships were constructed and these days has a small maritime museum and a yachting marina.

East of Beaulieu across the river from Bucklers Hard, famed Exbury Gardens will probably be another full day out, to properly see the rock garden, sundial garden, riverside camellia walk and the blooming big collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. Plant fans could also check out the collections at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey, which have over 42,000 specimens from regions all over the world.

Going towards Dorset and the coast, a drive of less than 15 miles west from Folds Farm will see sand hunters at the beaches of Christchurch; from there, drive further west to Swanage and the start of the fossily fab Jurassic Coast.
