General

  • Spacious family campsite in the New Forest, set on a 500-acre farm
  • Next to a holiday village with pools, bike hire, restaurants and bars
  • Local pub within two minutes' walk

Friendly Folds Farm Camping in Fordingbridge is fairly fab... for it has miles of cantering, cycling and trekking trails direct from its turf in the heart of the New Forest, and you can bring your own geegee if you have one.

Other fab facts: it's dog-friendly and family-friendly down on the farm, as the team welcomes families with teeny tots, small sorts and canine campers to roam around its safely spacious site, all set in a secluded field away from busy roads and surrounded by woodland and open fields.

Folds Farm's amenities include free hot showers with a changing area, sink and mirror, flushing and well-maintained portaloo style toilets, three water standpipes, dishwashing sinks and free use of a freezer for ice packs – all facilities are lit at night. A breakfast and snack service is available at weekends and on bank holidays.

And another fab fact the fifth (perhaps this should have come first), the local pub is a footling two minutes' walk from the farm and you'll find many more trad New Forest inns within a ten-minute drive. Cheers.

And! The farm is next to Sandy Balls Holiday Village and farm guests are welcome to wander in and use the facilities there, like the heated indoor and outdoor pools, several play parks, bar and restaurant and bike hire point. A peaceful farm park with a pool and more play in easy proximity? How fab.

Great site with friendly and helpful staff 04/09/2017

The staff - so friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble despite the site being full as it was August Bank Holiday weekend. They were constantly cleaning the toilets and showers.
Access to Sandy Balls added another dimension and we did use the outdoor pool (more of a splash pool really; you needed to arrive at about quarter to each hour as swims were per hour, on the hour - but free!)

    Disliked:

The site was lovely but a lot of the field was rather undulating! It wasn't too much of a problem though.

Stayed from the 24th Aug to the 28th for the Bank Holiday Weekend.
The organizers were great and had everything that we needed, to hand. You pitched where you liked and everyone got along even as the site filled up. The weather was fantastic. I would recommend the use of a firepit or bring your own as the late August nights get chilly after sundown

    Disliked:

    Nothing to dislike.

I found this site on pitchup and opted for a pitch for 2 people at £105 as we only have a 2 man tent but found that there were none of these pitches left. They only had pitches for 8 people left at £165 so I booked one. On arrival we discovered that there were no allocated pitches at all but were told just to find a spot and pitch our tent but to please keep as close to others as possible so they could squeeze many more in. So I was angered to find we had been charged for a larger pitch which didn't even exist. Once set up we got talking to our neighbours who told us that they paid £30 a night which equated to £90 for the bank holiday weekend. So again we had been grossly overcharged.

    Ambience was brilliant.
The friendliness and willingness of staff to help was very good.
Freezer available (if overfull) for freezing icepacks.
Staff willing to recharge phones and would keep an eye on the queue for them.
First rate attention to keeping toilets and showers clean and well stocked. (the young folks engaged to do this were very lovely!)
The other campers were courteous and friendly.

    Disliked:

It's probably because we're used to much cheaper campsites up north, but for £40 a night we were expecting more than a field with a few chemical toilets, a portable shower block and 3 outdoor sinks. That said, we had a wonderful time, the weather was gorgeous and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.

Booked this last minute as a we have nothing planned for the last bank holiday and 3 kids to entertain.
Staff were excellent, friendly helpful and wanted you to enjoy your stay.
Enough toilets and shower(maybe one or two more would have helped) for the site.
Plenty of supplies available in case you ran out or forgot something i.e. milk.

    Disliked:

Lack of quiet time, this might sound a bit party pooper but when your neighbours are letting their kids run around screaming at midnight without trying to calm them down, it can start to ruin your stay. I'm not saying 8pm lights out but respecting your neighbours and keeping quiet after 11pm wouldn't hurt.

Great friendly welcome on arrival to this pop up canpsit that is open only during August (very helpful owners) sweets for the kids too! Pitch where you like (within the site rules) can have a fire in fire pit (can hire for your stay and get more logs) Great area didn't use the car for the whole stay (stayed bank hol weekend) Next to Sandy Balls holiday park and can use the facilities - we did swimming, nerf wars and the rainbow run inflatable session, plus used the restaurants and shop. Lovely family friendly atmosphere on site, plenty of space for kids to run around but all safely enclosed. Hot water all the time in the washing up sinks and shower blocks and very clean. Would definitely return - thanks for a great stay. Definitely a great back to nature location and having no phone signal all weekend made for proper family time!

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but the toilets are portaloos (just an FYI for those who don't like them) They are kept extremely clean and restocked with toilet paper a couple of times a day.

Hot sunny bank holiday on an extremely overpriced camp site 28/08/2017

Location, pub, atmosphere. The campsite and staff were great and the location was perfect, lots of wildlife and amazing veiws and walking. We didn't travel with kids however looked great fun for the kids, very social and safe.
    Loved the pizza oven!

    Disliked:

Toilets (portaloos in 30 degree heat), price, we paid £90 which was already 3 times more than we ever pay and we camp alot! And then were told because our tent wasn't a two person that we had to pay more - £135 for a pitch back to back with other campers with no space and terrible facilities is a bit of a joke for 3 nights! I felt that the people who run it are merely trying to squeeze every last drop of money that they can out of people without worrying about the campers experience. Showers were decent but flicked between boiling hot and cold with no ability to control the temperature and the electric would cut out every now and then leaving you in darkness.
All in all we had a great time but it is just way to overpriced for what you get.

Local attractions

Fordingbridge is in a mighty handy Hampshire location, right in the New Forest but not too far a drive to day trips at the Jurassic Coast, Stonehenge and the beaches of Bournemouth and the rest of Dorset. Paultons Family Theme Park – yes, home to a certain pig named Peppa – is about nine miles' trot away.

In the New Forest, many folk like a look at Beaulieu, a very full (and fab) day out around Beaulieu village that includes the National Motor Museum, Palace House and Gardens, Beaulieu Abbey and the World of Top Gear.

Bucklers Hard, part of the Beaulieu estate, was once where many of Nelson's ships were constructed and these days has a small maritime museum and a yachting marina.

East of Beaulieu across the river from Bucklers Hard, famed Exbury Gardens will probably be another full day out, to properly see the rock garden, sundial garden, riverside camellia walk and the blooming big collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. Plant fans could also check out the collections at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey, which have over 42,000 specimens from regions all over the world.

Going towards Dorset and the coast, a drive of less than 15 miles west from Folds Farm will see sand hunters at the beaches of Christchurch; from there, drive further west to Swanage and the start of the fossily fab Jurassic Coast.
