General

  • Secluded site an hour from London
  • Across the estuary from Osea Island
  • Fishing spots, pool, playground, amusement arcade, café and bar

It’s hard to believe that Steeple Bay Holiday Park is just an hour from London; this tucked-away corner of the Essex coast feels fably remote, with its far-reaching watery vistas and backwaters that teem with birds.

Guests here can congratulate themselves on having impeccable taste: the seclusion of this spot makes it a firm favourite with the rich and famous, who can sometimes be spotted touching down in their helicopters for a stay on Osea Island, just across the estuary of the River Blackwater. Take a boat out from Steeple Bay’s slipway and who knows who you might bump into as you navigate the peaceful creeks surrounding the site...

Steeple Bay Holiday Park has a good-sized, heated outdoor pool with a separate splash pool for those still sporting armbands - and the pretty grounds contain some great spots for fishing, a playground and a sports field (ideal for working off any excesses in the café and Riverside Bar).

As it’s a Park Holidays site, Steeple Bay guests also benefit from a fun selection of activities for children in the Loopy Club; the kids’ shows and competitions run into the early evening, and thereafter you’ll find bingo, live music and more in the clubhouse during the holiday season. There’s also an amusements arcade for rainy days.

As for the basics, these are well covered too: you’ll find good showers and loos, a sheltered washing-up area, a launderette, small shop and free wifi in the clubhouse.

Disgusting Facilities! 21/08/2017

The estuary and the big field to camp in.

    Disliked:

Everything else! This is an absolutely disgusting place to stay. The toilets and showers were awful, there was litter all around the edges of the field and roads and the bins (rubbish and dog poo) were overfilling. One of the toilet sinks in the ladies toilet had sick in it for nearly a day and then at 11am on our last day the toilets ran out of handwash. We didn't think that the swimming pool looked too bad but when we tried to book to go in we were told that someone had done a poo in it!
The shop had no bread for sale on the Sunday morning and a four pack of beer was £9. We will never go back and would never recommend this site.

The camping field had lots of space,
Kids games at evening entertainment where good fun,
    All amenities close together
Staff all very helpful and friendly
Lots of tables in the evening,
    Quiet in the morning

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers. Everything flooded every time someone showered and floor had 2inches of water all day ( showers seemed only to be cleaned early in the morning).
Food in restaurant is very expensive - £11 for a pizza that costs £4 in Iceland. And nothing near by in walking distance, you must be able to drive, as no little local shops or anything like that.

Steeple bay is in a secluded spot which sounds nice ... 08/08/2017

Steeple bay is in a secluded spot which sounds nice until you realise that makes it harder to escape from this awful place. However the staff at reception were friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

The toilets and showers were filthy. The room to get water and wash up was the same, one of the sinks was blocked and covered in bird poo. The site is advertised as great for children but how can that be true when the very loud entertainment goes on until 1am. We pitched up as far away from the clubhouse as possible and it was still deafening. We booked in for 6 nights but gave up and came home after 3. Thoroughly dissapointed with steeple bay.

    Disliked:

The rude welcome we received when we arrived after driving our motor home down a very long and bumpy road, looking for reception we stopped at the first office we came to which happened to be the sales office for the park homes. There wasn't any direction to the reception we were just shouted at by a very rude member of staff to drive to the end! We would say this site is far more interested in selling the park homes than looking after touring pitches. The toilet block was dirty and some off the facilities broken, we were told to go and park up on the field.
