Plenty of places for kids to play

General

  • Peaceful back-to-basics site on a working farm in rural Sussex
  • A 20-minute drive from the beaches of the south coast
  • Firepit and cooking grid provided for each pitch

You’d be wise to arrive at Warbleton Farms with a plentiful stash of marshmallows – campfires are a big feature of life here and you don’t want to be in danger of snack envy upon spying your fellow guests’ after-dinner treats...

Those of you that aren’t in possession of a campfire-building badge from Scouts or Brownies (or if your skills have gone a touch rusty in the intervening years) will be chuffed to find that life has been made easy for you here: each pitch has its own firepit and grid so no worries about whether you’ve chosen a sensible spot. All there is for you to do is build and light the fire, crack open a cold drink and look impressed at your survival skills.

If it turns out that your survival skills don’t quite stretch to a full dinner, don’t worry – there’s a lovely little 16th-century pub only a couple of minutes’ walk away so it’s easy to beat a hasty retreat for a full feed up there.

Kids (and adults should you wish) can really roam free around here; with no cars outside of the designated parking areas it’s pretty safe to run about and play games. The lack of cars also means it’s mighty quiet should you choose to settle yourself into one of the hammocks in the woods and spend a bit of time communing with nature. Wildlife spotting opps abound in the woods and around the stream so keep your eyes peeled for passing beasties.

The back to basics vibe on this working arable farm means only minimal facilities, but you’re provided with drinking water and composting toilets. There isn’t even any wifi (no need to mention this to the kids – once they’re over the initial shock they’ll soon work out that it is indeed possible to survive offline).

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Amazing two night stay. The bell tent was lovely and having a kitchen area with all crockery and utensils provided made our first camping experience so much easier, as did having our own eco friendly toilet which was much better than I had anticipated. We spent some quality family time together toasting marshmallows and gazing at the stars. My boys (6&3) are already talking about going back next summer. Thank you very much

    Disliked:

Nothing although next time I'll bring more than just flip flops 😂 we were very lucky and had the whole site to ourselves had there been other campers the boys wouldn't have been able to use the robe swing as this was located on another pitch.

The site is very remote feeling- quiet, private and amazing starry skies after dark.

A great place to camp as a group without feeling like you are surrounded by others

We felt very supported by Vicky, who dropped by every day to check we were doing ok/ replenish the massive water containers they provide.

Its a nice touch that there is a picnic table by the firepit....meant that our group of 11 adults and 3 kids could sit and eat comfortably together.

We took solarshowers with us which worked perfectly to supplement the very clean composting loo provided.

Easy to explore the area from the site.

    Disliked:

Signage on the road could be far more visible to help with finding the campsite initially.

Not disliked, but worth noting that phone reception is very patchy so in a big group can be a bit difficult...clearly not much the campsite can do to improve that though!

The campsite was amazing and very spacious - no noisy neighbours in tents nearby. Each pitch had a picnic bench, fire pit (with grill to cook on) and a compost loo. The site is situated about 1/4 mile from the road so it was very peaceful. The area is beautiful and surrounded by farm land and wooded area.
Vicky, our host was so helpful and came down to check on us daily. She also provided us with a few local walk options and we’d highly recommend these.
We had a great time and will definitely be staying again!

Beautiful, wild camping. Woods, birds, lush grass and set up of huge pitches. Plenty of water and logs provided. Great, short walk to pub and pretty local church/churchyard. Compost loos really clean and smell-free. Very helpful and friendly service, brilliant when we asked to move pitches due to 50mph winds, no fuss or bother.

Absolutely beautiful site, very spacious miles away from anyone else, so peaceful, calm, tranquil place. Perfect area for the children to play - rope swings, build dens, rest in the hammocks. Walks were beautiful and so nice to listen to all the wonderful sounds of nature at night. My children and I really enjoyed our time here toasting marshmallow on the campfire and just simple being back to basic. Vicky the owner, came to check daily if we needed anything but other than that left us to enjoy our time with was lovely. Amazing pub up the road the black duck - beautiful food and stunning inside. This is an ideal campsite for relaxation and beauty at its finest have recommended to all my friends when in need to get away from the daily strains of the hussle and bussle.

Local attractions

Now that they’ve got a taste for country life, kids can play at being a farmer at Blackberry Farm, a 20-minute drive away. There are lots of friendly animals to meet here, and a daily schedule of activities including tractor rides, pony rides, pig feeding and egg collecting. There’s also a huge play area with a zip slide, trampolines, go-kart track, an assault course and heaps more for hours of entertainment.

Animals from all around the world are on show at Drusillas Park, 25 minutes away: wander around to see monkeys, camels, penguins and snakes among others. Pack the kids’ swimming cossies and they can splash about in the water play area, full of jets, fountains and geysers to keep them chilled on a warm day.

At Bentley Wildfowl & Motor Museum, half an hour away, you can feed the birds (around 1000 of them, across more than 100 different species), take a ride on the miniature railway and look around the collection of cars, motorbikes and other vehicles, some of which are more than 100 years old.

Even older is 15th-century Herstmonceux Castle, 20 minutes away; the moated castle is surrounded by a 300-acre estate made up of woods and formal gardens. Castle tours are available at certain times of day (check before you arrive) but you can always wander around the estate and, if you’re visiting in high season, perhaps take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.

It’ll only take you about 20 minutes to drive to the coast for some beachy fun: head to Eastbourne for a classic British seaside resort beach, or make tracks for Pevensey Bay to find something a bit wilder. If you’d like to get on the water, a watersports centre in Eastbourne can sort windsurfing, sailing or paddleboarding from the beach.
