  • Well-maintained, adults-only touring park in the Ribble Valley
  • A 15-minute drive to Clitheroe and 40 minutes to Yorkshire Dales
  • Easy access from the M6; restaurants a couple of minutes' walk away
A countryside location but with easy motorway access and restaurants a few minutes’ walk away? That’s the fine mix you’ll get at Northwood Caravan and Holiday Park, a family-run park in Lancashire’s lovely Ribble Valley. It’s a peaceful setup indeed here, as it’s an adults-only park with plenty of space to relax on the touring pitches and take in the views over Longridge Fell. The team that run the site take great pride in their place, as you’ll note from the pics of the immaculately maintained and landscaped grounds. Equally well maintained are the facilities, which include water and electric hookups and a smart modern amenities block (opened for the 2021 season) with top-notch showers, a laundry area and accessible bathroom facilities. This is a popular area for walkers so bring your boost along: as well as the Ribble Valley itself there are miles more trails nearby along the coast, in the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Being about 10 minutes’ drive from the M6 also means it’s easy to get to the Lake District with minimal fuss. If you need any advice on where to walk, have a chat with the owners – they’ll happily point you towards their favourite spots. For eats, there are Italian and Indian restaurants a couple of minutes’ walk away, and there are several other pubs and places to eat within five minutes’ drive (plus a Michelin-starred number 10 minutes away). Whalley and Blackburn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for shops and places to eat.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: After a warm and informative welcome by the owner, Walter, we enjoyed 3 nights at this beautiful site. Amenities were exceptionally clean at all times. All pitches appeared level. We enjoyed a good meal at the Indian restaurant close to entrance and also made use of the bus service which stops near to entrance. The town of Clitheroe was 30 minutes on bus and worth a visit. We also enjoyed the beautiful village of Whalley which had a few pubs, high class shops and a lovely abbey. This site is a great location for a peaceful retreat or exploring the nearby towns. Will definitely return. Thanks Walter, if only every site was to this standard.

Disliked: Nothing. All good.

Liked: This site was just perfect. Grounds were immaculate, showers the cleanest I’ve ever seen with really hot water…well worth paying 20p a minute for, bus stop right outside and 2 good restaurants almost on the doorstep. What more could you ask for! Big thank you to Walter the site owner for all the restaurant suggestions and helpful info he gave us. We will definitely be back. Margaret & Ken

Local attractions

Peer into the past… Samlesbury Hall (five minutes' drive) has witch tours, a heritage café and the historic house to look around, while in Whalley village (10 minutes) there’s a Cistercian Abbey, plus a viaduct, river walks and independent shops to choose from afterwards. The foodies and gin connoisseurs among you won’t be left out around here. Clitheroe (15 minutes) is a fantastic foodie town, thanks to its food festival and market (not forgetting the castle for an extra helping of history), and the Brindle Distillery (15 minutes) is a good way to wash it all down with a gin tour. Now for some nature – some good places to find that include the Brockholes nature reserve (10 minutes), Bowland Wild Boar Park (25 minutes) and all the walks around Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales (40 minutes). Those of you who aren’t finished with the action of a town or city might also want to pay a visit to the Haworth Art Gallery (25 minutes) and all of Blackpool’s attractions (half an hour), including the theme park, water park and piers.
