  • Quiet site (no music or groups) in a rural location on a working farm
  • A 20-minutes' drive from both Blackpool and Lancaster
  • Forest of Bowland and Beacon Fell Country Park within 10 miles
You'll find reasons aplenty why this park is proving pretty popular with those seeking to pitch up in the north west: its position is pretty excellent, its vibe relaxed, and its team very friendly indeed. Poplar Grove Farm Caravan Park is a 160-acre working family farm, just 12 miles from Blackpool for those who like illuminating hols, and halfway between Lancaster and Preston for city sightseers. Even closer (and filled with pubs and restaurants), the old market town of Garstang is a couple of miles away on the River Wyre: river fishing ahoy… And for hikers, bikers and scenic view seekers, the unspoiled countryside of the Forest of Bowland and vistas of the Bowland Fells can be reached within 11 miles – or take yourself out into the surrounding Lancashire countryside: miles of walks and bike trails are all around. All guests have access to a modern toilet and shower block with facilities for washing your dog and their paws. The site also has a chemical disposal point.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Large pitches, friendly staff. Fires allowed. Good size play park.

Disliked: Play park was grass and very waterlogged. Showers need modernising and better heating.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for leaving a review. Just to clarify it has been non stop raining for the last 6 weeks here, and unfortunately we’re only 17 meters above sea level here and the draining isn’t very good and cannot be improved due to this. Therefore I’m unable to keep up with the grass cutting and get stuck when I try. Regarding the toilet and shower block, we understand that our current toilet block needs modification and we are now 2 years in building a brand new toilet and shower block which will be ready for the start season in 2024. Hope this helps Thank you Summer foley

Camping pod

Liked: The pod was great. It was clean, tidy, fresh bedding and had the essentials such as fridge and kettle. The site has some other accomodation to stay in so we would like to try a waggon next time.

Disliked: There was some building work going on, which I am excited to see when it's finished but we would have preferred a pod further away from the building work rather than right next to it.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Nice gravel standing with plenty room ,nice level pitch . Quite site with no noise apart from traffic from other guests . Toilets and showers very clean and tidy but showing a bit of age .

Disliked: Poor outside lighting ,but it was late October with early dark nights ,kitchen area was very basic and exposed. In fairness to the owners they are building new facilities which appear to be well on as far as completion is concerned,l would say they will ready for the 2024 season .

Camping pod

Liked: Beautiful site, pods overlooking the water and mostly very peaceful. Clean toilet and shower facilities. Play area for young children, although this was quite overgrown and waterlogged due to recent weather. Pods were spacious and well equipped with fridge, kettle and heater. Also a firepit and picnic bench per pod. Lots to see near by - Garstang is a pretty village only a 2.5 mile walk and Blackpool is a 25 minute drive.

Disliked: Some construction noise early Monday morning (as they are building a new toilet block) which would have been nice to have notice of as it's a quiet site.

Shepherd's hut (no pets)

Liked: Good location and friendly welcome. Very quiet site. Very warm Shepherds Hut. Will be better when new toilet blocks are functioning as there is currently one shower block of two showers, two toilets, and two sinks for the entire site.

Disliked: Never saw the llamas or animals. Not sure where they were. The hut could've been a bit cleaner and it had a smell to it. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable.

Local attractions

Garstang (the world's first Fairtrade Town, food fact fans) is a few minutes' drive or two miles' walk from Poplar Grove and comes with seven pubs and three restaurants; have a duke too at the ruins of 15th-century Greenhaugh Castle overlooking the town. The village of Scorton, three miles from base, has a pub, garden centre, café, and restaurant: if you're around during the May bank holiday, roll along to the Bike and Barrows Festival and the Scorton Music Festival for wheelbarrow racing, sheep racing and other shenanigans. To the east of Garstang, the old hunting ground of the Forest of Bowland is now an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty landscaped by moorland, fells and valleys, with endless opps for walking, cycling, fell running and wildlife watching (not all at once, and look out for the hen harriers…). The Bowland Visitor Centre, with info on the area's activities and events, is in Beacon Fell Country Park. A 20-minute drive will land you at either Blackpool (south east) or Lancashire's county town of Lancaster (north), with a fair good time to be had at the former and a load of historical sightseeing available at the latter. Preston is about 25 minutes' drive south. To investigate a bit further afield, the watery wonders of the Lake District are about an hour's drive away.
