General

  • Great location in the middle of Lancashire
  • Family-friendly site with plenty of activities
  • Within easy reach of the Forest of Bowland, Pennines and Lake District

You might fall over when you clap an eye on Beacon Fell View, a family-friendly park in 30 acres of landscaped parkland and with rather spectacular views over the Ribble Valley.

Slap bang in the middle of Lancashire, the park is conveniently placed for day trips to Blackpool but within easy reach of the Forest of Bowland, the Pennines, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Golf, fishing and wonderful walks are all available close by too. And did you know that the Ribble Valley is the wealthiest area of Lancashire and has the smallest population but the biggest area? Plenty of room then for enriching activities without rubbing shoulders with hundreds of other holidaymakers…

Firmly family-friendly, Beacon Fell View keeps a considerate eye on many little (free) touches to jazz up your hol: the indoor heated pool, tennis, paddling pool for little squirts and entertainment four nights a week in high season won’t cost you a red cent. Even more enhancing for knackered parents, you can send the heirs and heiresses off to the free kids’ club while you catch a match on Sky Sports or down a drink in the adults-only lounge bar. (A family bar is available on site too.)

Amenities include hot showers (also free), a covered dishwashing area, launderette and a food shop; and kids can additionally live large at the indoor and outdoor play areas, crazy golf and arcade with amusements and pool table. Pitchwise, all is level, grassy and within five minutes’ walk of reception; guests have access to water points and can park their car by their pitch.

Supplywise, nearby Longridge has a well-stocked farmers’ market, a couple of supermarkets, two decent pubs serving good food and – quids in again for the kids – an outdoor adventure centre with everything from water orbs to fencing.

This site is a member of Hagans Leisure group.

As a site of this calibre, i.e. club house etc. it was the worst I've experienced. The pitches were a pitiful excuse for "hard standing" pitches, it was simply a very uneven graveled area with a line of electric hook ups.
My main concern was the security gate in to the touring side, it was padlocked with no immediate access for campers, we had to ring to get someone to physically come and let us in or out. This is a major worry for me as a member of my party some years ago had a heart attack in the early hours where I rushed him to hospital. should that happen in a situation like Bell View god knows what would have happened. Yes they give you a number to ring but at 3am in the morning we know this is not going to be an easy process. I'm actually not sure if this is a health and safety issue locking people in to an are where they cant leave with ease.

nice site lovely views over the ribble valley and close to the town that has facilities small co op and few pubs.Lovely clean toilets that look to be fairly new and showers are clean as well.Problem with showers no family shower only cubicle showers that are a bit small and very hard to get dry on the small area in front of shower as shower sprays and splashes on to the area also nowhere to put anything no shelf just one small hook on door.Club is nice but a bit on the expensive side 3.80 for a coors pint of beer and 1.60 for a tonic mixer bottle they do have a happy hour 5 till 8 on mon and fri where beer is 2.40 so much better.Pitches for camper and caravan are a decent size and nice view fairly level as well water near too.Staff seemed very friendly all in all i would visit again.Price is not cheap eother 27 a night from july 1st.Didnt use the swimming pool but it did look clean and a good size and a crazy golf course at the side good size kids play area onsite too very good sluice room and some washing machines and dryers for longer stays.

Good that there is entertainment on for kids at night. Shop had good basics that you require for cheap which was good. Astro turf football pitch for kids is good.

    Disliked:

On arrival we wasn't really greeted that well. Normally on other sites we have been explained to where things are if it's our first time etc. It only takes 1min to explain which puts u at ease if ure a first timer to site. Also didn't get a map of site in arrival pack. Had to get this from reception next day as it was closed on arrival. Also got put in dreadful pitches at the bottom near to club house. Was just an open space next to a load of rubble. Looked like a builder's yard. We asked to move further up hill on better pitches and to be fair they moved us. It's a shame because the pitches at the bottom could be done up and look nice. I'm not one to complain but just making these points so site can improve. all in all it is a good site but room for improvement.

Upon booking for 2017 I was informed that awnings are no longer permitted. As a family with 4 young children and the typical British weather I cannot function for longer than 1 night without an awning. Therefore I will not be returning.

Local attractions

Beacon Hill Country Park and the Forest of Bowland are mere minutes away by car and both have miles of walking routes across a range of landscapes including woodland, hills and farmland. Climb to the top of Beacon Hill to see landmarks in all directions including Belvoir Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, the hills of the Peak District and the steam trains of the Great Central Railway from Loughborough, Woodhouse and Quorn.

Said to be the inspiration for Tolkien’s Middle Earth (which makes us want to furry foot it there immediately), the Ribble Valley is equally lush and varied in landscape and activities including the 70-mile path the Ribble Way, shopping in towns such as Clitheroe or munching one’s way around the Ribble Valley Food Trail to pick up Lancashire produce or pick wild garlic in the woods. The River Ribble is a big hook for anglers landing chub, barbel, trout and salmon; in the Forest of Bowland, the north-west’s biggest fly fishery at Stocks Reservoir has four and a half miles of shoreline to cast off from.

If your little gems are naturally inclined, take them along to nearby Brockholes Nature Reserve and let them ponder how the Visitor Village there floats on the lake. There are regular reserve events for toddlers upwards including dawn chorus walks, school holiday clubs and an annual vintage fair.

More nature, wizard scenery and activities/attractions for all ages are available at the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and the Lake District, where you’ll also find museums on everything from classic cars to pencils; piles of National Trust houses, estates and gardens; first-class foodie establishments and days out for sporty sorts of all inclinations.

City day trips are in all directions too: the kids’ eyes will light up with a trip to Blackpool, its Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterpark, the biggest indoor waterpark in the UK. Historic Lancaster Castle is the finish point of the newly developed 51-mile Lancashire Witches 400 Walk from Barrowford, based on the route the accused Lancashire witches are said to have taken from Pendle. And for shopping, the Trafford Centre and Liverpool One of Manchester and Liverpool respectively should empty your wallet nicely…
