General

  • Great location in the middle of Lancashire
  • Family-friendly site with plenty of activities
  • Within easy reach of the Forest of Bowland, Pennines and Lake District

You might fall over when you clap an eye on Beacon Fell View, a family-friendly park in 30 acres of landscaped parkland and with rather spectacular views over the Ribble Valley.

Slap bang in the middle of Lancashire, the park is conveniently placed for day trips to Blackpool but within easy reach of the Forest of Bowland, the Pennines, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Golf, fishing and wonderful walks are all available close by too. And did you know that the Ribble Valley is the wealthiest area of Lancashire and has the smallest population but the biggest area? Plenty of room then for enriching activities without rubbing shoulders with hundreds of other holidaymakers…

Firmly family-friendly, Beacon Fell View keeps a considerate eye on many little (free) touches to jazz up your hol: the indoor heated pool, tennis, paddling pool for little squirts and entertainment four nights a week in high season won’t cost you a red cent. Even more enhancing for knackered parents, you can send the heirs and heiresses off to the free kids’ club while you catch a match on Sky Sports or down a drink in the adults-only lounge bar. (A family bar is available on site too.)

Amenities include hot showers (also free), a covered dishwashing area, launderette and a food shop; and kids can additionally live large at the indoor and outdoor play areas, crazy golf and arcade with amusements and pool table. Pitchwise, all is level, grassy and within five minutes’ walk of reception; guests have access to water points and can park their car by their pitch.

Supplywise, nearby Longridge has a well-stocked farmers’ market, a couple of supermarkets, two decent pubs serving good food and – quids in again for the kids – an outdoor adventure centre with everything from water orbs to fencing.

This site is a member of Hagans Leisure group.

If there was investment in the drainage of the 14/11/2017

We liked the swimming pool, especially due to the prevailing weather conditions.

    Quiet nights.

Staff that we bumped into were friendly.

Clean washrooms, could be improved with better heating

    Disliked:

    The access road:
Perhaps this could be termed as a quagmire, although this may be a little harsh.
Standing water and resulting mud had made walking and driving hazardous and messy. This was remedied by the application of more stone, but the drainage needs to be looked at more long term.

    The plot:
We were requested to submit the measurements of our caravan.
It was questionable as to the reasons behind this as the caravan could not be parked nose in or out without fowling the roadway, so was parked length ways. Which assisted in not having to walk through the mud on the adjacent land.

    The Children play area.
Wellies were a must, as were full waterproofs..............
Not great with kids that love to run around and climb on everything.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We have taken on board your comments and are doing maintenance over the winter so these suggestions are appreciated. We hope to see you again for the 2018 season.

Facilities; cleanliness of toilets, showers & chemical disposal room; within walking distance of Longridge town centre & THE VIEWS from the site!
Staff very friendly & went out of their way to be helpful.

    Disliked:

The pitches are a bit "tight" if you have a large modern motor home (not that we have) as evidenced by a neighbour hitting his mains cable pillar & it's a bit noisy after 10 p.m when the club is closed to children.
Minor irritants only I have to say.

Local attractions

Beacon Hill Country Park and the Forest of Bowland are mere minutes away by car and both have miles of walking routes across a range of landscapes including woodland, hills and farmland. Climb to the top of Beacon Hill to see landmarks in all directions including Belvoir Castle, Lincoln Cathedral, the hills of the Peak District and the steam trains of the Great Central Railway from Loughborough, Woodhouse and Quorn.

Said to be the inspiration for Tolkien’s Middle Earth (which makes us want to furry foot it there immediately), the Ribble Valley is equally lush and varied in landscape and activities including the 70-mile path the Ribble Way, shopping in towns such as Clitheroe or munching one’s way around the Ribble Valley Food Trail to pick up Lancashire produce or pick wild garlic in the woods. The River Ribble is a big hook for anglers landing chub, barbel, trout and salmon; in the Forest of Bowland, the north-west’s biggest fly fishery at Stocks Reservoir has four and a half miles of shoreline to cast off from.

If your little gems are naturally inclined, take them along to nearby Brockholes Nature Reserve and let them ponder how the Visitor Village there floats on the lake. There are regular reserve events for toddlers upwards including dawn chorus walks, school holiday clubs and an annual vintage fair.

More nature, wizard scenery and activities/attractions for all ages are available at the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and the Lake District, where you’ll also find museums on everything from classic cars to pencils; piles of National Trust houses, estates and gardens; first-class foodie establishments and days out for sporty sorts of all inclinations.

City day trips are in all directions too: the kids’ eyes will light up with a trip to Blackpool, its Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle Waterpark, the biggest indoor waterpark in the UK. Historic Lancaster Castle is the finish point of the newly developed 51-mile Lancashire Witches 400 Walk from Barrowford, based on the route the accused Lancashire witches are said to have taken from Pendle. And for shopping, the Trafford Centre and Liverpool One of Manchester and Liverpool respectively should empty your wallet nicely…
