  • Top-notch family holiday park on the edge of Silloth
  • Close to the Galloway Hills and Lake District National Park
  • Indoor pool, restaurant-bar and busy activity/entertainment programme
Off to explore the Lake District, the Scottish Borders or Hadrian's Wall – and want to stay at a holiday park with heaps to do on site for when you’re not out and about? Nearby Solway Holiday Park should fit the bill, as it's had several million pounds on updating its leisure facilities to make this 130-acre holiday park a highly sought-after place to stay on the stunning Solway Firth coast. It’s also located within walking distance of the Victorian seaside town of Silloth, in a handy spot for all sorts of outings on both sides of the England/Scotland border. That mix means you can really tailor your holiday to your own tastes, whether you’re planning to explore the scenery of the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, hit the beach or focus your attentions on the activities available on site (or some combination of all of the above…) And those activities… well, there are lots and lots of them to fill your time with. The indoor pool, sports field and games arcade might be a place to start (all of these being free to use) while you consider which of the other activities you might like to join in with. Might it be soft play, aqua games, teddy bear hunts or pirates and princesses adventures for the younger kids, or archery, zorbing, axe throwing and bird of prey experiences for older guests? Head over to reception to find out the options and put your schedule together. It’s really worth finding some time for the entertainment too – there’s a packed programme of all sorts from kids’ shows through karaoke and bingo to live music from top-notch performers. Of course, all the practicalities are covered here too – the site has a launderette, a mini market and a restaurant/bar that’s open through the day for breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: We did not end up staying at this place as they phoned and cancelled our holiday due to a waterlogged touring site and upcoming storm which was due. I really appreciated this piece of information. I cannot comment on the site itself as I said previously we didn't actually end up going but hoping to book back up at a later date

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean site

Disliked: Not much to do in the area. No beach and once the town is exhausted from a days wandering then it’s a good drive out to get to anything of interest

Liked: Didn’t really get to check the facilities as we left they day after arrival

Disliked: Was told b4 we came that the pitches weren’t water logged and the drains had been done got there and it was a complete mud bath to the point the dog couldn’t go out, we had to have a tractor to put us in place, n the car got stuck twice and we had no power for 24 hrs as the power supply had been severed underground 😢and still waiting for a refund as the costumer service is rubbish 😡

Electric grass pitch

Liked: allowed us to take food from shop to feed the kids as the electric turned the fridges off

Disliked: they didn’t let us know prior to arriving that the entire pitch was extremely muddy, the tents were surrounded with water the caravans and cars all got stuck we had to get a tractor to pull them out. kids couldn’t play outside the tents because of how muddy it was and couldn’t let the dogs out of the caravans. had to drive 30 mins to go buy welly’s as we didn’t expect it to be that bad. the electric turned off every night we were there so all the food in the fridges went off and and everyone was freezing, we have all came back with a bad cold because we couldn’t keep warm with the heaters. also the water wasn’t working for most of it so couldn’t have a shower

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Toilets and shower block very clean and modern. Food in the restaurant bar was good but had to wait a long time for it

Disliked: Nowhere for adults to have a quiet drink at night without kids running around the restaurant bar last orders at 9 there is a bar upstairs but for owners only so the family room is the only place to go. Ok if you have kids but it's not good if you want to chill and have a chat.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: How close to the town 10/15 minute walk but the site nothing

Disliked: The pitches were waterlogged, when we arrived we were informed to drive around and look for a pitch that we though was suitable. Whilst driving around a tractor arrived to pull other out that were stuck ! We decided to just pitch up beside the toilet block on the road. Our electric cable did not fit and we were told there was nothing that could be done about that ! Having paid for a pitch with electric but ending up on a road with electric about 30/40 foot away and then it was an overloaded socket and electric kept going off !

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Cheap bingo £6 for 4 games and decent prize money. The ground staff on the touring pitches were lovely and tried to help as much as possible. I honestly feel so sorry for them they only arrived at the beginning of the month and had all this to deal with.

Disliked: The pitches were waterlogged were not able to use them ended up pitching up at the side of the road. The electric kept going off as sockets were so overloaded 3 times an electrian had to attend the site over the weekend as electric kept going off. There was no water in the shower blocks only shower with water was disabled shower and then the water was not able to regulate correctly it was either red hot of freezing cold. Went to go swimming to have over a 40 minute wait to just get into the water to be told to get out as the levels were not correct. Done Reception staff and manager were very rude and when I informed them of all the issues i was advised to give my name and number and they would get back to me once they worked the way through the list. If they spent as much money on the touring pitches as they did the rest of the park it would have been amazing.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Walk to the coast 10 minutes. More enjoyable outside of the campsite.

Disliked: Very badly organised. Pick your own pitch but good look finding one that wasn't like a river. We got stuck like many others and had to be pulled out. Water pressure went. Electrics went off. Think site should have made contact with people who were due. Explained what state the pitches were in and gave a choice for a refund or to move the holiday to a date of your convenience

Local attractions

On the English side of the Firth, Solway guests can reach the north-western lakes of the Lake District National Park, day trips to Carlisle and the hills and stargazing of Northumberland National Park. On the Scottish side, you could hike the Galloway Hills, run away to Gretna or drive further afield to urban days out at Edinburgh or Glasgow. (To see it all at once, take a trip to championship Solway Golf Course where you can tee around to views of the Lakeland Fells, Galloway Hills and across to the Isle of Man.) Moseying towards Northumberland (stop off at Carlisle Castle and The Lanes shopping centre on the way), friends, Romans and countrymen can walk as much of the Hadrian’s Wall Path as they can manage: it’s the north of England’s most visited tourist attraction and most of it runs along the Solway Firth on its way to Northumberland. Happily for such a family-centred site, kiddish fun is all around Solway Holiday Park too: farm park Orton Grange, getting open-mouthed at the fish and other inhabitants at Lake District Coast Aquarium, or going on a hop around award-winning World of Beatrix Potter.
