General

  • Peaceful, relaxing, sheltered and friendly park near Penrith
  • A short journey to Ullswater and two miles from Rheged Visitor Centre
  • Parallel to a spacious farmhouse garden overlooking mature trees

Off to pretty Penrith to access the lovely Lake District? Feel posh with a pitch at Tymparon Hall, set in the grounds of an eighteenth century manor house.

The peaceful and friendly park is sheltered to the east by the old Penrith to Keswick railway embankment, running parallel to a roomy farmhouse garden overlooking a summer garden with colourful flowers and landscaped with mature trees. It's in prime national park exploring land, four miles from Junction 40 of the M6 near Penrith, on the doorstep of the Eden Valley and a ten-minute drive from Lake Ullswater.

Showers, loos and chemical disposal are available on site. The local pub, an old-school inn, is about ten minutes' walk or two minutes' drive away; the nearest supermarket is within four miles.

Absolutely top notch site, nice and peaceful, Jim and Margaret the owners were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, the touring pitch was ideal with direct water on the pitch and waste water grate.

    Disliked:

Nothing, you’d be pretty harsh to critisise anything.

Quiet place, nice scenery, good location for Ullswater and Penrith, not too big so felt quite safe for young children.

    Disliked:

No kitchen/ dishwashing facilities but I knew this before going so it wasn't a big problem.

Used as a stop over on our way north. Quick easy access from the M6.
Very nice approach and entrance and warm welcome from the owners. Mix of seasonal and touring pitches gave the impression than it was busier than it actually was.
Toilet block was clean and modern but only has 1 shower per sex so potentially could lead to a queue at busy times (although we didn't have to wait).

    Disliked:

There are no eateries within walking distance so a drive out was the only option to get a meal. We drove 10 minutes to Penrith where there is everything you could ever need.

Small site set in beautiful grounds of the house. Very peaceful and quiet. Large pitches with water on each pitch and electrical hook up. Friendly, welcoming owners and even let us stay 1 night on a bank holiday weekend 😊. Great location for the motorway. The Rheged centre is just 10 mins drive and is wonderful and Ullswater is just 15 mins drive to the top end. Aira Force Falls is a must 😊

    Disliked:

Small toilet block with two toilets and only one shower, I didn’t have to queue at all though but my husband did in the men’s. The electrical hook up was split between a few which meant that our pitch was quite far away from the point and our cable wasn’t long enough.

Easy to get to from the motorway, really good stop over on our trip south from Scotland,

The hard standing fully serviced pitches are a real boost,
And the Staff are very friendly.

Local attractions

Tymparon Hall is ten minutes both from Pooley Bridge and its Bronze Age standing stones, and Lake Ullswater for steamboat trips, sailing, diving and scaling England's third highest mountain Helvellyn to the lake's south. At its west, walk through Lake District woodland to reach Aria Force waterfall.

The Rheged Visitor Centre is a couple of miles from Tymparon: head here for a six-storey high cinema screen, shops, cafés using Cumbrian produce, indoor and outdoor play areas, and family-friendly activities and events throughout the year.

This is Eden Valley land too, along with lots of opps for walks, bike rides and pony riding in the valley, Greystoke Forest, around the Lakeland Fells and back at Ullswater.

A little further afield but still easily accessible from the campsite, Hadrian's Wall and Carlisle are both excellent options for days out.
