General

Escape to Port Haverigg for a comfortable holiday by a 200-acre lake, ideal for watersports, from surfing to water-skiing. The holiday village faces a south westerly direction, making it the ideal destination for romantic gateaways or simply, for watching sunsets. It is also conveniently located near the magnificent beach and sand dunes which form part of the Duddon Estuary, whilst the Lake District National Park is right on the doorstep.

And inside or outside, you'll find space, space, space. Cleverly laid out to offer water views, each unit has generous grounds and parking bays around them.

The park has two entries to the lake, one in the secure boatyard and one at the other end of the park by the Ski School and Ski Bar. Both are secure and family friendly. The Ski Bar is a lively bar which hosts the many water sports events happening year-round at Port Haverigg. The Ski School provides the equipment, safety and boats for your fun and enjoyment. Want some fun with the kids? Not a problem. Banana boat rides are available at a small fee.

The area, the caravan. The children's play area was superb for our 4 year old and right opposite the caravan.

Very nice cottage, friendly staff 22/08/2016

Reviewer's country: Germany Olaf B. Confirmed

  • Liked:

Overall good and quiet location, nice and clean surrounding. New cabin with large living room, comfortable sofa, large dining table. Everything was clean. Modern kitchen appliances. Comfortable beds. Nice and clean bathrooms with steady hot water supply. Friendly staff, questions and requests were promptly answered.

    Disliked:

Our cabin didn't have a washing machine even though this was listed as part of the appliances. Also, hot tub was not included in the booking even though it looked like it was from the description on pitchup.com. The hot tub is only available with additional pre-registration and costs (GBP 60).
When it was sunny (which wasn't often the case in August), the cabin heated up very much. Unfortunately too cold for using the offered activities on the lake, e.g. water skiing. Wifi was affordable (GBP 7 for a week) but with interruptions because of location of router somewhere near the reception cabin, which was some distance away.

Didn't happen - Cancelled by them and nightmare getting refund 08/08/2016

    Nothing!

    Disliked:

They called me and cancelled - with only 5 days notice.
Told me to contact pitch-up for a refund.
I had to call them every day - and every day I spoke to someone new who had no idea of my issue.
I was promised a refund for 4 days running which never appeared.
To add insult to injury the only call I got from them was from the park 3 hours after I should have checked in to say they were trying to re-instate the holiday!!!

    Customer service as appalling.
They don't deliver on what they say they will do.

This is NOT picthup at all - it is the port havverigg site - and an incredibly poor transition period to their new owners

brand new caravan, friendly staff, entertainment only at weekends 31/07/2016

Clean facilities. Beautiful beaches and miles of walks nearby

    Disliked:

There was only entertainment and food available on site at the clubhouse at weekends. This is a shame as the location is fantastic and particularly where food is concerned the choice is fairly poor locally.

We liked the view as it overlooked the lake

    Disliked:

Disliked the fact that the majority of information on their website was incorrect. Water sports centre is now closed, don't do food on site or entertainment. Nothing much to do for children. Said you could get wifi in the ski bar, but you had to pay for it.

The caravan was very clean and well equipped. 03/06/2016

The caravan was very clean and well equipped. The corner plot was very spacious and quiet and near the park which was ideal for our children. Good location to explore the coastline and surrounding hills.

    Disliked:

We had booked a 3 bedroom caravan but upon arriving at 10pm we discovered the caravan we had been allocated only had 2 bedrooms. Furthermore despite it having a sofa bed in the living area no further bedding had been supplied.....not ideal with 3 children! Unfortunately the site was fully booked so we could not be moved and the company were unwilling to take any further action as we had booked it via pitch up and not through them directly (I had spoken to the caravan site prior to arrival to confirm our booking and they said everything was fine).

Local attractions

Watersports are available on the lake. The locality around the park consists of the town of Millom and the village of Haverigg. Leave the park by the Ski bar’s entrance and in less than five minutes you have a hidden beach with miles of stunning sand, dunes and gorgeous coastline. Here you will find a fantastic park for the kids and a beach cafe serving very reasonably priced food for all. Further up the coast there is also the local rugby club and a little further down is a nudist beach.

The town of Millom is small but has all you need from banks and supermarkets to restaurants and petrol stations.

The lake is enclosed by RSPB Hodbarrow nature reserve which is well worth exploring on foot or by pedalling.

Within a 35-minute drive you can be at Coniston Water and a further 10-minute drive will take you to the Lakeland Motor Museum and Donald Cambell tribute. Lake Windemere is only 1-hour drive from the park as is the stunning town of Ambleside.
