  • Coastal site next to Maryport Marina
  • Near an aquarium, two museums, a go-karting track and a golf course
  • Highly scenic views of the Solway Firth, plus spectacular sunsets
Ahoy there… If you’ve been seeking a site right in the middle of the historic harbour town of Maryport – right next to the marina itself, in fact – then you certainly can’t do much better than Harbour Side Caravan Site. Better still, this site is within a very short walk of several of the town’s topping attractions such as a Roman museum, a maritime museum, an aquarium and an indoor karting track; you’re also a mere two miles from the local coastal golf course, and within very easy reach of the Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath too, which runs right through the town. The site has a simple set of amenities that includes an accessible sanitary block with hot showers, a bath, a parent and baby bathroom and a laundry room and a washing-up area, as well as electricity bollards and water stands around the accommodation area.

What customers say

This harbourside campsite is praised for its fantastic location with beautiful marina views and easy access to the beach and town. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. Facilities, particularly the individual shower/toilet blocks, are frequently noted as immaculate and modern. The on-site cafe receives positive mentions for its food and coffee. While the site is generally quiet and well-maintained, some guests found the number of showers and toilets limited during peak times, and a few noted the pitches could be a little close together.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked - Proximity to the marina and beach is excellent and pitch views look out to the lighthouse and beyond across the Solway Firth and the hills of Dumfries and Galloway.
- Clean toilets and showers, accessed by a fob to prevent public access (see point below in dislikes)
- On site cafe within a couple of minutes walk with good food and coffee, served by friendly staff.
- Town just a few minutes walk away (normally - the bridge was in repair while we were there which made the walk/drive much further)
- Friendly Marina staff on check in and check out
- pitch 16 was a good location, a short grass mound behind gave some privacy from the walk way alongside the dock (so our dogs couldn’t see other dogs!)
- WiFi signal was strong and reliable, we watched YouTube using it and had no issues.
- nearby Lidl supermarket was well stocked and easy to access in our campervan.
- The marina dock is close which is great and even with passers-by it’s still a quiet area.

Disliked - We arrived on the day of the town festival/carnival and were not warned to only try and access the site by a specific route to avoid road closures
- pitches were of the smaller end of those we’ve seen - particularly with the next point in mind ->
- no guidance given about side of pitch to put awnings onto - it meant we were hemmed into our pitch on some days because both pitches either side were facing onto our area. One neighbour had an enormous tent (not awning) next to his van (not campervan) which took up more than half the shared area. Luckily we were leaving anyway.
- The site is a little exposed to the public. You need a fob to enter and exit in a vehicle which gives security, but foot access is open to the side of the site so everyone can walk along the dockside and to the cafe. Not a huge issue but something to be aware of.
- waste recycling is limited to glass only.

Local attractions

Several excellent attractions lie around Maryport Marina and within very easy walking distance of the park. For a spot of local history, explore the exhibitions and collections at Senhouse Roman Museum and Maryport Maritime Museum. Or for something purely fun-based, take the kids for a day out to zoom around the tracks at West Coast Indoor Karting, or to marvel at the fish and other slimy sea creatures that inhabit the tanks at Lake District Coast Aquarium. If you’re into walking, then the highly scenic Cumbria Coastal Way long-distance footpath also passes through Maryport, and you can head along it in either direction for spectacular views out across miles upon miles of Cumbrian coastline. Tramp the path six miles north (or take the wheels out for a spin along the B5300) and you’ll happen upon the Victorian village of Allonby; wander around its cobbled streets spying such historic sights as the Old Baths, North Lodge, Christ Church, and the workingmen's Reading Rooms and check out the cheerfully painted homesteads along the way. As well as lots of history and a couple of award-winning beaches, the village also has some rather fine views across the Solway Estuary towards the mountains in the south of Scotland; for avid anglers, a local company also operates fishing trips off the Solway coast.
