In fact the whole week has been a delight - thanks to you, your friends, and all the lovely campers who've been to stay. Lots of you tell us how lucky we are to live here, and we agree. We also feel very lucky that the campsite attracts such considerate and friendly people, a pleasure to have around. Thanks everyone!

This is a 5* star campsite,we stayed here for 4 days, everything you need and as camping should be, very peaceful, firepits on every pitch, views to die for, Rosie and Mags have got it spot on, a great idea of a static caravan for all your needs i.e. Showers, toilets, fridges, freezeblock freezer, leaflets on what's to do in the area, cleanliness is excellent!! ...Rosie is very welcoming and friendly, she has some lovely stories to tell, it was a pleasure meeting her and her family and we will definitely be back this year, can't wait to see you again Rosie, by the time we come back we hope you've started that journal!! 😉... See you soon vicky and jo.

    Disliked:

    Nothing at all.

From the manager...

Thank you both so much. It was delightful having you to stay, a real pleasure. We're so pleased you enjoyed yourselves (even with Jo's poorly knee - hope it's better soon). We'll look forward to seeing you again in July when hopefully you'll be able to do some of the lovely walks from the campsite.

Stayed this weekend for 3 nights for my birthday - Friday to Monday. The site owner was really helpful and always willing to chat and advise. The owner is one of the most laid back and friendly we have come across.

Location is superb - two great pubs within a 10 - 15 mins stroll and the views are amazing to wake up to.

The pitches are spacious and the fire pits are a great selling point. All set up ready to go.

Facilities are spotless and do the job as intended.

Although you can't park next to your pitch there are wheel barrows provided. Take a few bungee cords to strap everything in.

We will certainly return over the season.

    Disliked:

If I was to be really critical I would say the showers are a little on the weak side.

That is it. Everything else was exactly what we needed and exceeded our expectations.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for your review. We're so pleased you enjoyed your birthday camping trip - and we're delighted to have exceeded expectations.
We're always pleased to help our guests find their way around this lovely area - so beautiful and still undiscovered yet with lots to see and do, including wonderful peaceful walking in varied and unspoiled countryside.
Great tip about the bungees! Thank you.

Loved being surrounded by hills and sheep in a lovely spacious field. The pitches are spacious and each has it's own firepit.
2 great pubs in easy 10-15 mins walk.
Plenty of walking from the site including Smardale viaduct.

    Disliked:

There are only 2 toilets but we only had to wait once all weekend.

From the manager...

So pleased you enjoyed the space and lovely scenery! Smardale Viaduct and Nature Reserve is one of our favourite walks from the farm too - in fact we went yesterday!. Our little booklet "Nine Great Walks from Low Greenside" is a good way to explore the area too. Thank you for coming and for leaving your review. We'll look forward to seeing you again.

Directions

Low Greenside is easy to find.

From the M6 (6.5 miles): leave the motorway at junction 38. At the roundabout, take the A685 towards Brough and Scotch Corner. 6.5 miles from the roundabout, at the big blue road sign, turn right towards Ravenstonedale. After 150 yards, turn right at the sign for Greenside. Low Greenside is the first farm on the left.

From the A685 at Kirkby Stephen (5 miles): follow the A685 south from Kirkby Stephen. After about 4.5 miles, at the bottom of a long steep hill, turn left towards Ravenstonedale. Ignore the turning left into the village, and continue (passing the Kings Head Hotel, set back on your left) until you see a sign for Greenside. Turn left here. Low Greenside is the first farm on the left.

From Sedbergh A683 (12 miles): follow the A683 from Sedbergh towards Kirkby Stephen. After crossing an unfenced common, turn left at the Fat Lamb Inn. Follow the road through Ravenstonedale, turning left at the Black Swan Hotel. Bear right at the school. Turn left at the T-junction. Continue, passing the Kings Head Hotel (set back, on your left) until you see a sign for Greenside. Turn left here. Low Greenside is the first farm on the left.

By train from Kirkby Stephen station (4 miles): on the famous Settle-Carlisle line, you can take a bus or book a taxi. For up-to-date timetables and taxi numbers, contact Kirkby Stephen Tourist Information Centre.

Local attractions

Ravenstonedale village about 10 minutes' walk from the farm has two country pubs with riverside gardens, both serving food and real ales. There's also a village grocery shop, playground, public tennis court, nine and 18-hole golf course and a small art gallery.

There are plenty of interesting local walks and bike rides in the region – several start at the farm gate – including country walks with refreshments to be had at a pub or café en route. The Howgill Fells are a few minutes' stroll up the lane for walking and mountain biking.

Nearby you can go pony trekking or trout fishing - catch one and barbecue it later (the trout not the pony...).

The market towns of Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Sedbergh are all within a few miles, each with its own attractions. The farm owners will keep you up to date with events in the area, such as local shows and festivals, farmers' markets and other rural happenings.

There's excellent access for days out in both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales but none of the busy vibe you can find elsewhere in tourist areas. The Eden Valley is equally scenic and doesn't get busy.

Information on all the above is available at the site. There's also a visitor information centre in Kirkby Stephen.
