General

Baysbrown Farm Campsite is located about 7 miles from Ambleside in the village of Chapel Stile at the entrance to the stunning Great Langdale Valley in the heart of the Lake District. We are a working Lakeland farm with an area set aside for camping. We don't have set pitches, just space. You pitch where you like and can park next to your tent, though this is sometimes not possible in adverse weather conditions.

The view from the campsite is spectacular and is a superb location for fell walking and climbing. Routes include Bowfell, Crinkle Crags, The Langdale Pikes and even Scafell Pike. There are great low level walks through woodlands, valley bottoms and picturesque villages including Elterwater. It is also a great base for exploring the larger villages nearby including Ambleside, Grasmere and Hawkeshead.
Our basic facilities include solar powered showers, toilets, a washing up room and drinking water. We also have a waste/recycling point. Small campervans and motorhomes are welcome but a narrow entrance with a hump bridge makes anything larger impossible. There is no hard standing or electric hook-up.

Charges are £5 per adult per night, £3 per child under 16 per night and £2.50 per vehicle per night.

Owner told us to "fuck off" on arrival 30/05/2016

The owner is a deeply unpleasant and wholly unreasonable person. I got there at 1am after a 6-hour drive and was just getting the tent out of the car when the guy appeared out of the darkness a foot behind my girlfriend and shone a torch in my face. He demanded to know if we’d just arrived then stated with no hint of an apology that we had to leave immediately. He said there’s strictly no entry after half 10 and we had to go now. I started to say “ok, we’re leaving, but could you put this rule on your website so that other people don’t have this happen to them”, but as I got about half way through he got right in my face and said “Fuck off, do you expect me to do everything for you?”
He went on to rant about how people keep coming to his site late and how he’s sick of having this conversation (getting more aggressive by the second), but I really wonder what he expects to happen when he has a rule unique to his site that he outright refuses to publicise. I’ve pitched up at many camp sites late at night all over the UK and never had any kind of problem before, and if this guy thinks it’s acceptable to talk to potential customers like disobedient children then tell them to fuck off because they broke some obscure rule that he refuses on principle to tell anyone about then it really tells you a lot about his regard for his site’s guests. I will never go to this campsite, and I would warn anyone I can away from it. Do not waste your money on this creep.
