General

  • Set in 30 acres of the Cheshire Plain
  • Reindeer centre and five coarse fishing lakes on site
  • Easy access to Liverpool, Ellesmere Port and north Wales

We bet you can figure out what type of accommodation is at this cracking Chester site, but we bet you're not also expecting a reindeer centre.

Set in 30 acres of beaut Cheshire Plain, Crow Camp Tipis is at the Tarvin Sands Reindeer Centre and Fishery: trot here to meet the reindeer, cast off at one of five coarse fishing lakes, hike and bike the surrounding plains or go hither to north Wales, Chester, Manchester, Liverpool, Ellesmere Port and many towns in between...

Crow Camp Tipis has a wash house, shower block, and a café serving hot and cold meals and drinks. The site wardens are there at all times if you need to ask for help or advice, and all is safe on site as the gates are locked from 8pm to 7.30am.

And those tipis? They're fully furnished and fully equipped, and come with a cooking area with camping stove, kettle, crockery and cutlery.

When we arrived, we were greeted very warmly, helped to "move in" to the tipi, given logs and charcoal for the fire pit. Overhead a bird of prey was circling for food. Two nights stay, we saw robins, frogs, dragonflies, crows (of course), geese flying overhead. And we visited the resident reindeer herd. We cooked or tea outside on the barbecue, as the weather was beautiful, didn't need the stove inside, stayed up to see a beautiful sunset, keeping warm with the lovely fleecy blankets provided. After stargazing on a really clear night, retired to a comfy futon, Up with the lark, for a shower provided. The toilets were kept very clean, the showers warmed very quickly. Would definitely go again.

The only thing that I picked up on was on sunday morning in the shower block. some young mums were busy sorting their kids out. They were saying they had been told that another seven families were booked to camp. It was the opinion that there were enough people there all ready, and they were leaving because of this. They mentioned Delamere as an alternative. I would like to say that we were completely unaffected by the size of the facilities as there were only two of us, but I could see their point.

Owners do a great job managing site and welcoming campers. Cafe is very reasonably priced too. Fishing lakes well kept and stocked. Reindeers beautiful to see

We had a great time at Crow Camp Tipis.

The welcome was lovely, the tent was great - large, well catered, great fire pit, seating and so on. my kids loved it so much and we all slept well. We were attending Car Fest North so it was good to be nearby.

The café on site was nice too, with good service. Wifi was available in the café.

    Disliked:

I worried as Pitchup messed up with taking the remainder of the bill and then communications were slow with the owners, but once we spoke and were reassured it was fine. Paypal to pay direct would be really useful.

The bathrooms were basic, I've had better on camp sites.

This is the first time we went glamping and we tried out the tipis at crow camping at TArvin at Chester.
Found it quite hard to find as not much sign post but if you see a sign for TArvin sands fishing just follow that and this will take you to the place.
The tipis are great with plenty of room for the 3 of us 2 children and 1 adult very comfortable and had a gas cooker with 2 hobs and a grill with a kettle and pans crockery just like at home.
We also were given some bbq charcoal and fire lighters also some fire wood for the fire Pitt this made it more adventurous.
We loved sitting out in the evening watching the moon with the bbq and the fire going.
We slept so much better much deeper sleep than we normally do at home the fresh air did us a world of good.
Pam and Danny were very friendly and helpful really nice and made us feel so much at home, Danny took the children round and about looking for toads and voles and doing a nature trail with the kids which they absolutely loved doing, the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
There is a cafe on sight which serves good food at reasonable prices saves you having to cook.
Toilets and shower block was very clean and always had toilet paper in.
We were all sad to leave that's a good sign that we enjoyed ourselves we will definitely return in the future
Whilst we were there we visited delamere forest and the ice cream farm which was fantastic!
Thank you for a fantastic time in the tipis and good happy memories too...

I was really impressed by how friendly and helpful the owners were. They went out of their way to make this, our first camping trip with small children, as enjoyable as possible. We were taken to see the reindeer on the site and able to feed them, the kids got a wee ride in one of the "tractors" - it was great.

The tipi we stayed in had everything you needed and was very comfortable. My daughter was really excited about being able to have a campfire too!

We didn't use the shop on site for much, but it was handy to know it was there and the site was pretty close to a few villages with well stocked supermarkets.

It is also well located for a lot of local attractions either in Chester or the Cheshire countryside and we had a lovely couple of days.

    Disliked:

It is quite close to a busy road (it is well enclosed and not unsafe from that perspective), but the traffic noise was quite audible. That said - the location did make it very easy to reach and easy to use as a base for visiting.
