Clarion Lodge Campsite

Unfortunately, we were flooded out 3 days and 2 nights in a row but after speaking with the husband he arranged with his wife so that we could move pitch after giving us a dry night in one of their Wigwams. The following day we repitched with a new tent and the help of Jo who was very accommodating and helpful. It may not have been the best time of year to go camping but we had fun despite the weather 😀 ok it was wet and muddy and someone broke the shower off the wall but you could still get clean, plenty of sanitiser was in the bathroom. The electric hook up for both pitches were close by and the second move took us next to the washing up area, bonus in bad weather. Fantastic area to stay in, beautiful scenery and central to plenty of places to visit.

View, location at the top of the site, cabin novelty and outdoor fairy lights. Microwave, kettle, fridge and crockery/cutlery. Comfy mattresses.

Having to take torch to portaloo toilet as no inside light, flush lever up to 20 times to flush, and there being no running tap water to wash hands. We were told to use the next one along which did have water to wash hands, but only cold. We were trying to avoid using the communal toilet block due to covid and potential germ spreading but in the end it was easier (and possibly more hygienic?) than using the portaloo as it was perfectly clean and had hot water.

Cabin would benefit from more corner mood lighting to give it a softer, calmer atmosphere. We brought our own fairy lights for the inside, but having them provided would be a nice touch.

The door needs a catch on it so it can be clicked shut but not lock every time someone goes out, as it got annoying having the door swing wide open when someone had gone out and tried to push it shut, and annoying to have to knock to be let back in afterwards.

Small compact site, easy to find and access. Noticeboard with pitch allocation allowed easy late arrival. Facilities adequate and clean. Hard standing pitch for camper van nice and level with access to electric hook up. Excellent WiFi across the site.

'Hardstanding' consisted as limited stone covered in mud/dirt - could not get out of the vehicle of without getting muddy
Electrics were all from one single point - too far away from the pitch for a standard cable to reach - so could not use main electrics

Brilliant, Clean... And, well hard to describe... We turned up, set up and went a aaaarhhh... Chill... In these C19 times & both of us working in Care(home) (wife a care home manager) .. Being able to kick off & relax Brilliant. The site is ssssoooooo clean along with the facilities thank you.... Views, astounding... What's the saying "Location, location, location" Otley Close by... Rumbling Tum Café gets 2 thumbs...I'm struggling to exalt my "likes" other than to say "we will be back!" well I hope! So layed back thank you!

Having read other reviews... Yes can be ground water holding problems... I'm sure if the owner could control the weather they would. People need to realise Installing a ground drainage system isn't an easy/straight forward task.
A little tight with a 7.5m van but we did it I hope I didn't chew the grass up too much
Aeroplanes... Yep... Once again, if an anti aircraft battery was installed.... Oops can't say that... I didn't find the aeroplanes a nuisance... But I'm of an age were I still look up for/at them... Surely kids love it...
