Holme Valley Camping & Caravan Park

Our rural park nestles in the corner of the Holme Valley on the edge of the Peak District. Surrounded by 16 acres of woodland and meadows it is a perfect base for exploring the outdoors.
Along with the spacious showers and toilets, our new amenities block offers a little more luxury with our family bathrooms available to hire for a short period or for the whole weekend. Our well stocked, licensed shop is open into the evening and we also have a laundry. There is a play area for children and of course plenty of space for them to jump on their bikes and explore or they are welcome to head to the woods for den building or play hide and seek. Dogs are very welcome and the surrounding woodland is ideal for walking, however we do strictly ask that they are kept on a lead on the park at all times. We have a wide range of pitches many with electric hook ups and on arrival we like to offer our guests a choice which may range from lakeside or riverside, amongst the trees or in one of the meadows.
The River Holme runs around the park and many water birds can be spotted including herons, dippers and kingfishers. Fishing can be enjoyed on the park in both the river and the lake. We strive to keep our business as green as possible and take time to support our local wildlife and their habitats. Our efforts have been recognised and through the support of our guests we received our sixteenth consecutive David Bellamy Gold Award this year.

*The staff ... extremely friendly and helpful, even phoning beforehand to double check my booking, and upon arrival checking the weather forecast for us, making recommendations for pubs/eateries, etc.
*The staff (again). When we arrived I was informed that I'd booked an awning that wasn't required for a tent and was given a refund. Only £6 but spoke volumes for the customer service offered by this site. Thank you!
*The locality to Holmfirth. We walked about a mile into Holmfirth through mainly woodlands (the route was provided by the site). Both the walk and Holmfirth were lovely
*Wonderful woodland walks alongside the riverside
*Great site for dog walks (although I didn't find them until the day we left lol). Suggestion to site ... a guide for suggested (dog) walks to accompany the other guides you offer would be great
*Female toilet and shower block was immaculate (except for one sink that was filled with manky water when we arrived and still there when we left 4 days later. I know staff were aware of it and were trying to resolve the problem)
*Although there are only 3 showers in the female block in the bottom field, I never had to wait for a shower. Unsure if this would be a problem when the site is full?
*Pitches are relatively flat and the field well tended. Staff are visibly on litter picking duty every day
*The site was quite busy but noise levels set by the site were abided to and it was relatively quiet even though there were lots of families with children and it was the first week of the school holidays.
*Everyone abided by the music and noise deadlines

The road noise was particularly noticeable at night (camped in the bottom field near the riverside)
There is a public footpath alongside the bottom field ... although we weren't bothered, I wondered if security was compromised?
All EHU pitches are around the perimeter of the field which is surrounded by very large trees. Although initially it appears idyllic, it does mean that pitches remain in the shade for much of the time, tents don't dry as quickly after rain as the non-EHU tents in the centre of the field and bird droppings are inevitable
On-site shop is limited, but I assume that most people (like us) bring their own supplies
Initially I worried about the wandering teams of ducks on the site due to my dog's aversion to wildlife and being told that the ducks tend to wander into tents to 'nick' food, but it was never a problem for us
The water in the showers lasts for seconds before automatically turning off and then has to be turned back on for another 'few second' session. I understand the ecological reason for saving water but it makes showering really difficult and washing your hair virtually impossible
In my opinion, not currently the best value site in relation to facilities provided. We paid £78 for one tent, 2 adults, 2 dogs and 2 cars for 3 nights.
