General

  • Family-run site in a South Yorkshire hamlet
  • Easily accessible but in a peaceful rural location
  • Close to several footpaths, bridle paths and the Trans Pennine Trail

If you're seeking South Yorkshire stays in a secluded locale but with easy access to Yorkshire attractions round and about, Windy Bank Hall Caravan and Camping Site is a breeze.

It's in the handsome hamlet of Green Moor, Sheffield, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside from its elevated position, and is easily accessible to heaps of north-east highlights like scenic hiking and the Trans Pennine Trail as well as the Peak District National Park and settlements like Holmfirth, Barnsley and Doncaster. Manchester, Leeds and both the Yorkshire national parks are handily reachable for day trips.

As it's in such a rural locale, Windy Bank Hall Caravan and Camping Site is in a wildlife haven: look out for land-based critters around its footpaths, rambling tracks and bridle pages, or look up for birds of prey circling overhead – perhaps while sizzling up a barbecue amid this spectacular scenery…?

Rural location, scenery. The peace and quiet.
Local amenities are good. Locals are friendly.
    Local pubs good for food.
Site although basic is very clean and well kept.
Drinking water and toilet wash area is well kept.

    Disliked:

Lack of toilet and shower would be a problem if staying more than a few nights. However factor into the price for staying its still good value for money.

Excellent holiday home started to enjoy it right from the moment we arrived, we had not been there long before the owner Andrea arrived, she made us feel most welcome and is a genuinely lovely person, inside the holiday home was absolutely immaculate with plenty of room, a lovely bathroom, living area and wonderful bedroom, this holiday home as been built and furnished to a very high standard, and is a credit to the owners, we wanted for nothing.
After we had settled in we went for a walk and was astounded by the stunning views around the holiday home.
We would highly recommend a visit to Windy Bank Hall holiday home, we will certainly be visiting again very soon.
Many Thanks. Angie and Wayne Thompson.

Local attractions

As it's Yorkshire, this is walking land, so bring your boots and several pairs of thick and comfy socks. As well as its direct access to several South Yorkshire footpaths, Windy Bank Hall Caravan and Camping Site is near the heady tramps of the Peak District National Park and the walks of the Trans Pennine Trail, the reasonably gentle 207-mile route crossing northern England from Southport to Hornsea.

Other local rambles are around the village of Holmfirth, used by the Beeb for Last of the Summer Wine filming, and Cannon Hall Farm and Country Park, the 70-acre grounds surrounding a Georgian manor house. If you'd rather pedal, try tackling part of Britain’s longest cycling route Route 68, the 355 miles from Derby to Berwick-upon-Tweed via the Peak District.

Yorkshire heritage hunters will of course have quite a pile to pick from: local picks include the living history attraction at Elsecar Heritage Centre, the three and a half miles of West Yorkshire track at the Kirklees Light Railway, and handsome historic houses like Wentworth Woodhouse, Roche Abbey and Brodsworth Hall and Gardens.

Must see

  • Wentworth Castle Gardens (3.6 miles)
  • Yorkshire Sculpture Park (8.6 miles)
  • Magna Science Adventure Centre (9.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Nostell Priory and Parkland (13.7 miles)
  • Marsden Moor Estate (16.3 miles)
