General

  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • Many animals to meet on site
  • Modern and well-kept amenities with free hot water

If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the barn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith.

As you might reckon from a park so firmly animal friendly, quite a menagerie is on site too: come here to meet the three Kunekune pigs Rita, Bubble and Squeak; Bertie the Labradoodle and Marmite the Giant Schnauzer; Shetland ponies Ant and Dec (they're quite tiny); Dakota the donkey, and Blanche and her chick friends.

And as you also might reckon from all this, its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel, Border Forest Caravan Park is a popular place for Northumberland stays... Its amenities are cleanly kept and include modern ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, and toilets, washing-up facilities and a fridge in the park's centre.

As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. Local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Friendly, welcoming site, perfect location and excellent camping pods! 17/02/2018

Absolutely loved the location and our cosy camping pod! Great value for money and wish we'd stayed another night! The wonderful forest walks are right on your doorstep so you dont have to move the car round to one of the forest car parks - your walk starts straight from the pod!

The owners were very friendly and even though we turned up early, (they were just putting the heating on in our little pod as we arrived!) we were allowed to unload our car and get straight off on a walk so as not to waste the day!

We are normally tent users but we will definitely be back to treat ourselves to a cosy pod again as there's so much of the forest and lake we didn't see with it being out of season!

Due to the season the facilities in the camping / motorhome area were all closed, no mention of this when booking plus no discount, very expensive for a pitch no other facilities used except filling a drum with water.

From the manager...

Hi

The toilets and kitchen at the bottom of the park close to the pitches are closed during the winter months as they are likely to freeze and damage the pipe work and loos but this is explained on the
Pitchup website.
However there are toilets and showers available at the top of the park which are kept open all year round these are a 2 minute walk from the touring pitches.

Great little site, well positioned for Forrest walks. Also well positioned for the Pennine Way. All facilities well maintained and clean. Helpful warden. A quiet site. Great that it stays open all year round. There's a nice walk to Hindhope Linn (waterfall) nearby and great for dog walking!

    Disliked:

Anyone fancying a walk to the pub will be dissapointed. There isn't one open nearby.

From the manager...

Hello ,thanks for your review. This really is doggy paradise and we are so glad you enjoyed the many walks we have directly from our park. The nearest pub is 4 miles south of our park,
We are open all year round BUT weather permitting, so winter time we strongly advise you call before to check conditions! We hope to see you again :)

A pinnacle of perfection for any Pooch 24/11/2017

There are no words for this nirvana for my pooch. She was in her element (or rather some other creatures effluence) from the moment we arrived. The clear signage for the park was a positive start to an outstanding camping experience from beginning to end. We were met promptly by the owner (I hope your cold has eased now) and given clear instructions about the park before being accompanied to our delightful pod.

There are no words to describe the beauty of this area and if, as the film suggests, All Dogs go to Heaven, then they need go no further than Border Forest Holiday Park. There are walks in abundance, a HUGE field for fetch and other doggy related activities and a warm welcome and attention throughout your stay.

The site is very well thought out.

The deities even saw fit to give me an hour of clear skies to bask in the jewelled glory of the night sky.

I have asked Gypsy for her review and she says "woof" which you will agree is praise indeed.

Thank you for a delightful stay and I will certainly be back.

From the manager...

Hello and thanks for your review,we are very pleased you enjoyed the many walks we have directly from our park. Unfortunately BT and Open Reach will not lay the fibre we need to offer wifi to all of the park! According to them we are too expensive yet they have the monopoly ,don't make sense! :(

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too).

Also in the forest, hop along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics.

Within an hour's drive of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (both also rather mighty); nineteenth century Cragside House, and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast. Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
