General

  • Surrounded by nature on a Northumbrian working farm by the sea
  • Watersports and birdwatching at Druridge Bay Country Park
  • Beachside accommodation, bike hire and sunset alpaca treks

Bells of Hemscott is a seaside site set on a working farm on the Northumberland Coast. The property is in a large meadow overlooking a large pond filled with wildlife, resident swans and other birdlife. It's within walking distance from a seven-mile stretch of sandy beach at Druridge Bay and is surrounded by castles, country houses, museums and heaps of walking and cycling trails.

There's a café and an ice cream shop about a mile from the site, and the market towns of Amble, Alnwick and Morpeth are all a short drive or bus ride away.

Accommodation is right next the beach, surrounded by acres of countryside for walking, cycling, wildlife spotting and stargazing.

The site owners also operate sunset alpaca treks direct from the site – availability is limited, so advance booking is advised.

The site has composting toilets and a kitchen shelter for cooking and washing up.

Perfect site for a restful break 03/09/2017

Reviewer's country: United Kingdom Christina H. Confirmed

Beautiful location, right in the dunes overlooking the beach. Going to sleep to the sound of the sea on the shore. Acres of clean sand, Gulls and waders gathering on the rocks exposed by the outgoing Tide. The small number of pitches. Being able to have a contained fire. The simple wooden structures. The showers with plentiful flow of hot water. The compost toilets.

    Disliked:

I would have liked to have been able to compost our vegetable waste, pealings and such from preparing meals, too.

Location - isolated, beautiful stretch of coastline. Plenty of space.
    Facilities - very basic, functional
    Ethos - low impact, eco-friendly
Management - gives you all the information you need, then leaves you alone. Friendly, rapid and professional when contacted.

    Disliked:

I would have liked hot water in the washing shed - but only because I'm too lazy to heat my own.

Very basic site facilities, but beautiful scenery and very peaceful. 27/08/2017

Tents are pitched in the grass of the sand dunes, just a walk and a scramble down the dunes to the beach!
At night you can hear the waves, a very peaceful location with beautiful scenery.
You can choose your own site to pitch- which is great if you are one of the first to arrive that day, not so good if you are a late arrival.

    Disliked:

By the end of my weeks stay I was very sick of the smell in the 2 composting toilets, and very glad to get back to plumbed facilities!
The 2 showers were a long walk from both the tents and the toilets. Some days I had perfect hot showers, some days the shower run hot then cold, and one day was ice water throughout. The water runs straight through the wooden floor boarding, so after everyone has used them, there is a small bog by the front of the shower doors.

Beautiful site, lovely warm showers, and beach just over the dunes. 30/07/2017

  • Liked:

The tent was beautiful and kitted out with all the essentials. Sitting out around the fire pit at night was lovely and the children really enjoyed that. It was so peaceful, yet there was a small town not too far away with pubs, cafes and shops. The beach was beautiful and we had it to ourselves for all of our stay. A lovely family holiday.
