General

  • Cliffside site a short walk from the beach
  • Well-kept grounds set around a koi carp lake
  • Pool, adventure playground, bar, restaurant and takeaway

This one certainly does what it says on the tin: on cliffs beside an inlet full of the golden grainy stuff, Sandy Bay Holiday Park also has an impressive vista of the Northumberland coastline and well-kept grounds set around a lake full of koi carp.

It’s an easy walk to the beach, but if the sea water’s too chilly, you can wallow instead in the heated indoor pool, where you’ll also find a fun range of activities such as hydrodomes and snorkelling.

This is a lively site, ideal for families with its fun kids’ clubs for all ages, adventure playground, amusements and family-oriented entertainment in the beach showbar (expect competitions, games, live shows, music and dancing).

Sandy Bay Holiday Park also has a bar, restaurant and takeaway food, plus a shop and laundry room.

The site was close to where our friends were. Fortunately we spent most of our time with them so we only had to come back to the site at the end of the day.

    Disliked:

The touring part of the site is poor. The pitches are far too small and facilities are inadequate. The toilets and showers were dirty and there was no toilet paper, on one day the lock was broken and we couldn’t even get in. We returned one evening to find someone had pitched there trailer tent right next to our awning so we couldn’t get our camper in and they were using out hook up cable. The site security were very helpful in sorting the problem out but that shouldn’t be a problem that needs sorting. We won’t be returning to sandy bay.

    Disliked:

Unless you have spoken to a regular visitor about it, the Exit route for first time visitors is atrocious. Only one water outlet for tourers which is quite a distance and same again the portaloo cassette cleaning facility is at the same place, no wash down only a fixed tap and a toilet that doesn’t flush
