  • Wild camping with spectacular views over the Yorkshire Dales
  • A 35-minute drive to Richmond and 10 minutes to Aysgarth Falls
  • Exclusive-feel meadow site only accessible by 4x4 or walking
Dales View Campsite is in a secluded field in the Yorkshire Dales, with far-reaching views over the villages, dry stone walls and field barns of Wensleydale. This is a fab spot for a taste of truly wild camping in a flower meadow, and with only a couple of pitches so you get a real exclusive vibe (or book the whole place for yourselves…). You’re off grid here – and also off road, with the only access on foot up a winding farm track from West Burton village (although driving to pitches may be possible for experienced drivers in a four wheel drive vehicle). Here’s the chance to turn your back on 21st-century pressures and slow the pace of your life right down. Rise late, listen out for the birds (especially curlews in spring), and let the kids and dogs run around safely. Maybe stroll down to West Burton for a picnic by Walden Beck, or simply stay put by your pitch and and take in those spectacular Dales views. If you get itchy feet, jump in the car to explore Wensleydale; spectacular waterfalls, medieval castles and traditional pubs are all less than 20 minutes away. Pick up last-minute supplies in West Burton, or drive to hillside Leyburn in 40 minutes for specialist food shops and cosy tearooms serving Yorkshire’s traditional Fat Rascal tea cakes. Firepits are available on site for cooking, and you can buy kindling for a small charge. A compost loo is to hand as well as running water – but please boil or purify before drinking. And as this site is so remote, remember to plan for the 1.2 km walk up Morpeth Gate farm track. Factor in daylight and weather conditions, and wait to be surprised by the Dales views from your pitch.
