General

  • Small family run caravan and camping site
  • Combine country nights and city sights
  • Enjoy the nine-hole "pay and play" golf course

Country nights and city sights are easily combined at York Touring Caravan Site, whose peacefully pastoral position is only five miles from the centre of York.

There are sheltered, flat, grassy pitches with or without electricity, a spotless amenities block (including disabled facilities), and the smart café lounge offers unlimited free wifi with even the smallest of purchases.

Bag yourself a bacon roll, then get practising your swing at the on-site driving range, try the nine-hole “pay and play” golf course or kick yourself into action at the new on-site footgolf course (you can hire all the kit you’ll need). A short walk away is Piglets Adventure Farm Park, where the kids can coo over cute animals and clamber around on tractors and diggers.

Family groups are usually pitched alongside each other in a single area of the site: great for the kids, who might meet some new mates over a game of badminton or softball in the tent field (other ball games are restricted to a separate, dedicated area); and good for adult-only groups too, who are guaranteed a bit of peace and quiet in the other areas of the park.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Bookings must not be for more than 21 consecutive nights.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

very clean toilets and wash pot area, nice and quiet very peaceful . lots of information within the toilet foyer for places to visit.

    Disliked:

booked here as it said upon write up on bus route to york town, and as we travel in a motorhome thought it would be great but no!!!, a 1.5 mile walk to the bus stop along the road with no footpath . no shop on site , a cafe that charges £1.20 for a cuppa. luckily we had taken enough rashons to last but ran out off beer. also very strict with dogs and dog walk not worth bothering with as overgrown trees everywhere .

Beautiful clean site, spotless toilets and showers. Good cafe, nice helpful staff. Good selection of tourist information. Quiet locale. Good level pitches with services.

    Disliked:

Poor waste disposal area. The chemical loo disposal was just an old toilet behind a fence to pour into with a tap and bucket for rinsing but no hose and the grey waste disposal was poorly signed.

The site is not on a bus route (1.5 miles to walk to the bus stop) so if you are in a big camper which can't be moved once camped up it is quite expensive to get into York by taxi. Not the sites fault obviously but worth bearing in mind if you are planning to use it as a sight seeing base.

This was our second visit this year and both occasions were excellent. A quiet peaceful small site enclosed by fields and woodland. Everything was immaculate and in perfect order. The showers were perfect and free! No coins needed for a shower on a hot day. Only a short 5 minute drive to the surrounding lovely villages for stocking up with supplies and 10 minutes into York city centre. The lady in the reception was particularly accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for her, thank you for letting us stay a little longer. We shall return again pretty soon.

Local attractions

Corking York is just minutes up the road from York Touring Caravan Site. For a stress-free day, leave the car at the nearby Park and Ride and hop on the shuttle bus into town (cheaper than parking in the city centre). It’s a smashing place to visit, with attractions for all tastes: fascinating interactive exhibits at the Jorvik Viking Centre, gristle and gore at the York Dungeons, the Gothic glory of the Minster, choo-choos galore at the National Railway Museum, as well as fab shopping, eating and nightlife.

Castle Howard, one of the country’s most magnificent stately homes, is also a short drive away from the site; with special events running regularly throughout the year, a farm shop and garden centre, it’s not to be missed.

If you don’t mind travelling a little further, you can head into the North York Moors National Park for dramatic landscapes, pretty villages and wonderful country pubs, or go for a breeze along the beautiful Yorkshire coast, stopping off at Scarborough, Filey or Whitby.
