General

  • Peaceful fishing site with ten match and pleasure lakes
  • Leading coarse fishery with over 400 pegs and national competition
  • Tackle shop and café on site

Game, set and match. If you're a serious angling aficionado, The Oaks Lakes Caravan Park at Sessay in North Yorkshire is just the ticket: it's adjacent to a whopping ten match and pleasure lakes making up one of the best-known coarse fisheries in the north. And it's in pole position for off-site exploring too, as it has easy access to the A1 and A19 and is central to the north's main towns and cites including York, Leeds and Harrogate.

Fish to cast off for at The Oaks Lake include carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, gudgeon, perch, barbel, ide, crucian, carb, golden tench and golden orfe – and the park also has a specimen fishing lake with grass carp to 25lbs, ghost carp to 26lbs and common mirrors to 28lbs. Site guests can buy reduced fishing day tickets at the side of the lake on the day they're angling to get started.

The Oaks doesn't have fishing equipment for hire, but if you want to add to your kit, a fully-stocked on site tackle shop is there to cater to your needs – next door to a café serving hot and cold food.

Pitches all are hardstanding, super-sized and with electric hook-up, set in a four-acre field with easy access to the fishing lakes. A loo block with separate ladies', gents' and disabled-friendly facilities is next to the field, along with a screened chemical disposal point; the site also has a free hot shower.

Finally, as it's a peaceful park set up for fishing, The Oaks doesn't allow rowdy guests and accepts adults only.

This was our second time staying at oaks lakes we also stayed last August which normally we don't stay at the same place twice just because me and my wife like to travel to different places every time but we loved the site that much we return again this August the showers and toilets are very clean all the time, the site is very well laid out, the pitchs are massive not just big massive!! Which makes it very private, if you love fishing as I do loads of fishing lakes I think 10, tackle shop on site with everything you need friendly and helpful staff, also my wife loved all the hedgehogs that live in and around the site, would definitely return again

    Disliked:

The cafe really sorry to say this because we love every think else about this site, but both times we stayed we found the only thing letting the site down is the cafe, the first time we stayed we couldn't get any thing to eat because it was closed in opening times so I asked at the tackle shop about opening hours and was told sorry they come and go as they please and this time we had just packed the caravan on the last day ready to leave and didn't won't to cook breakfast so I went to get breakfast for me and my wife and it was just all bad, burn toast, microwaved sausage then finish on a hot plate served on a seeded burger bun I just went back to the caravan took one bite and through it in the bin and went to a lovely little sandwich van on the a19 just around the corner I should have know as the cafe was all way empty when I was going to the tackle shop this time sorry guy but everything else is excellent and it didn't spoil our stay

Once again had a wonderful stay at the Oaks Lakes Caravan Park. Having previously stayed at Easter, we can only say things got even better at this Site. It is a perfect stay for peace and quiet, just what we needed. Facilities are more than adequate, always clean showers, toilets and most impressed now having a chemical disposal right near the caravans, although there is another not far away too.
Did not take advantage of the fishing, but lovely lakes to fish either if your a fisherman or just want to relax fishing.
Management are not on site but are easy to reach by phone, and attend regularly on site if you have any problems.Very reasonably priced site too.
As mentioned previous the Moor and Pheasant Public house up the road, is a lovely place for food. Staff are very attentive, pleasant and food, mainly Carvery although every night there are some specials too. We had mexican on the Friday, which we complimented the Chef about. Can not fault anything. Perfect for reaching Hemsley, York, Thirsk.
