General

This is a small, family-run campsite, set on the former Husthwaite Gate railway station, situated under the Hambleton Hills and the famous White Horse at Kilburn. the campsite is in a unique and special location, it is set in a secluded level site, well sheltered but with great uninterrupted views over a special landscape. The owners welcome groups and extended families.

The owners have been moving everything on the campsite towards a sustainable energy strategy. Their philosophy is to reuse and recycle. There are an electric shower and toilet facility (using green electricity from the on-site wind turbine) as well as a small reception, and a shop and café area offering basic supplies such as beans, local sausages, fresh farm eggs, bacon, drinks, ice creams, sweets and chocolates, to mention a few. There is also tea, coffee and homemade cakes for you to try!

Loved the fact it was just us for two of the three nights. Very exclusive site, room for three tents maximum. Excellent facilities and very clean. Martin was very helpful with suggestions of places to visit and routes to walk. Having older children (16, 15, 13 and 9 years old) it was great for them to have the honesty cafe where they could recharge the electronic devices and still stay in touch with their friends.

Very peaceful and we were very lucky as we had it all to ourselves. Lovely wooded toilet block with homely features and also a separate shower room. Not too sure how it would be with another tent in the field as its quite a small area but this would be great if you booked it with family or friends. The honesty café was a lovely set up. You could find tea bags , coffee, ice creams, etc... and a kettle and you put your money in a pot. Lovely idea!

Nice family run site. They are always happy to help in anyway they can and go the extra mile. Would highly recommend!

    Disliked:

The last night the wind picked up so made the wind turbine quite loud. However they would have been happy to turn it off for us, so this is a very minor gripe.
