General

  • Wild pasture camping with spectacular views and plenty of parking
  • Wildlife haven - look out for pheasants, hares and a deer
  • Three miles from Whitby and 2 from the North York Moors National Park

Waipori Campsite is a quiet retreat in a rural location, surrounded by pasture and with spectacular views up to the Esk valley and over to Blue Bank and up to Hawsker,

There are pheasants, hares and a deer (and lots of smaller creatures) living in the field; for this reason, the owners let the grass grow long and only mow paths and pitches to preserve the environment. This also guarantees plenty of privacy to your pitches. The field also has a little path leading to a central location with communal seating.

The site provides the essential facilities for your stay: a single toilet, a water tap with mains drinking water, and lots of peace and quiet. There are no showers, so please bring your own portable one or do without for a couple of days.

In the village of Sleights, about a mile away, there's a post office and small supermarket, Radford's butcher and deli, a very good fish restaurant and takeaway, a Bothams store (the famed bakery) and a pub.

The view from the site is great and, because there are limited facilities, it was easy to book at short notice. Also, it wasn't busy even though the Whitby folk festival was on during the weekend we stayed. Easy to get to and only a few miles outside Whitby. The owner, Felicity, was really friendly and helpful.

You do need to carefully choose where you pitch though as you are staying in a field which does have quite a slope in places.

It's a great base for exploring the North Yorks coast.

Spectacular views, very quiet and peaceful even though it was Whitby regatta weekend, only a short drive or about 45 minutes to an hour walk into Whitby but all depends on how fast you can walk. Owner very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again would recommend only a few days unless you have the means of showering or been able to clean yourself daily..

    Disliked:

Nothing only downside is only one toilet and no other amenities but we new this when we booked as it says so on the website.
