General

  • In North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of Slingsby
  • Clean and up to date amenities
  • Licensed shop, play area and launderette

Set in North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of the village of Slingsby, Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park is a pretty, family-run site with a good range of amenities. It's six miles east of Malton and close to the North York Moors.

The well-kept park includes a treasure trail for your little treasures (around the park and into the local village) and a play area with swingers, climbing frame, bouncers and slide, all on safe surfacing. There's also a licensed shop, a launderette and a clean and cosy toilet and shower block with hairdryers and shaving points.

Local village Slingsby is within walking distance and has a country pub serving home-cooked meals, a village shop for sandwiches, sausage rolls and quiches, and a bakery with homemade cakes.

The size of the pitches excellent, good firm ground. Toilet facilities clean, staff very friendly.

Although not parked right next to main road, about 100-150 meters away, it is a main road and traffic noise could be heard through the night.

Brilliant site worth visiting 15/08/2017

Pick your own pitch instead of getting allotted pitch
Toilets are clean and well lit
    Kids park was good

    Disliked:

Only one toilet/shower block so if you are at the top of the tent pitches there is a 10 min walk.
Website advised of pub at end of road "the grape" we visited on the Saturday afternoon to find it was bookings only and we were turned away by rude staff. Had to drive about 10 miles to nearest place to eat. Was disappointed this was not clear on the website.

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time to review our park. We really appreciate the comments you've made. Sadly The Grapes & their website is completely out of our control so, although it is within walking distance, we aren't to know when booking is needed. Thankfully we are surrounded by great pubs so there are plenty in neighbouring villages with the closest one being 2.5 miles away.

Look forward to seeing you again,

Beki & Damian

Lovely site, well maintained, great park for the kids.

    Disliked:

The only think I would say is if you have young children don't pitch up next to park as the older kids played till 10pm and our little ones couldn't sleep-this is obviously not anything negative regarding site just advice for families with little ones.

From the manager...

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the park - your positive comments are very much appreciated. Great advice for those camping with little ones. We hope you and your family enjoy many more camping adventures together.

Hope to see you again,

Toilet block / pot wash a long walk from the tent pitches, not ideal with toddlers.

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time to review the park for us. The walk to the toilets probably does seem a long way when toddling but a tip for those camping with toddlers would be to bring a potty, bucket or toilet tent.

    Large bin overflowing with refuse

From the manager...

Thanks for leaving such a positive review. The bins get emptied by the local council on Friday mornings and again at 7am on Monday mornings. Unfortunately they don't work weekends and we had a lot of guests disposing of tents/sleeping bags/airbeds etc after the rain this weekend so the bins filled a little sooner than we would normally expect. Happy to see this wouldn't put you off visiting again and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Directions

Robin Hood Caravan Park is situated on the B1257, Malton to Helmsley Road, in the village of Slingsby.

Important notice for SatNav users:

We are aware that when using a satellite navigation system drivers are taken to the wrong entrance to the park.

Please be aware that guests should use the main entrance on the B1257 and not the entrance on Green Dyke Lane.

We would ask that you re-route the final part of your journey to ensure that you use the correct entrance and avoid using your satellite navigation system when finding the park.

From the north (Whitby): take the A169 road to Malton via Pickering then join the B1257 to Helmsley. After 6 miles you will come to Slingsby and we have direct access on the right hand side.

From the north (Thirsk): take the A170 road towards Helmsley. Then take a right turn onto the B1257 towards Slingsby and Malton. Follow this road for 6 miles until you reach Slingsby. Robin Hood Caravan Park is the third turning on the left.

From south/west: take the M1, A1, A64 via York to Barton Hill. Turn left following signs to Slingsby via Castle Howard. At the crossroads in Slingsby turn right and Robin Hood Caravan Park is on the left.

From east: take the A64 to Malton. At the traffic lights in Malton turn right and follow the B1257 towards Helmsley. After 6 miles you will come to Slingsby and Robin Hood Caravan Park is on the right.

Local attractions

This is an ideal base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors. It’s also easy to get to the Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, all with lots to see and do.

For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there's diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of lovely villages (and excellent pubs) in between.

Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers alike will enjoy a trip aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of scenery and includes a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.

Fifteen miles away is the ancient city of York, where visitors can yomp around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions.

The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The streets are jam-packed with tearooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.

Castle Howard is very close by: take in the eighteenth century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.

Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.
