General

  • In North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of Slingsby
  • Clean and up to date amenities
  • Licensed shop, play area and launderette

Set in North Yorkshire countryside on the outskirts of the village of Slingsby, Robin Hood Caravan and Camping Park is a pretty, family-run site with a good range of amenities. It's six miles east of Malton and close to the North York Moors.

The well-kept park includes a treasure trail for your little treasures (around the park and into the local village) and a play area with swingers, climbing frame, bouncers and slide, all on safe surfacing. There's also a licensed shop, a launderette and a clean and cosy toilet and shower block with hairdryers and shaving points.

Local village Slingsby is within walking distance and has a country pub serving home-cooked meals, a village shop for sandwiches, sausage rolls and quiches, and a bakery with homemade cakes.

Friendly staff. Clean toilets and shower block. Well maintained site. Peaceful site which was perfect for what we wanted for a few days away.

    Disliked:

Abit of a walk to the toilet block/washing up area, but not really an issue.
The shop opening times on the door said it didn't shut till 6 and when i went up about 5:30/5:45 it was closed already, but again not really an issue as just rang the warden on the number on the door and it was sorted.

From the manager...

Many thanks for a great review. Its great to hear that we were just what you were looking for.

If you get chance I'd be grateful if you could let me know which day the shop was closed so I can find out why - I'm sure our warden will have been helping another guest on site or just taking a comfort break as a member staff is usually in there until 6pm. Thanks.

The only thing I could be a critic on was the fact that the site shop was only open for a hour and half in the morning and afternoon. apart from this PERFECT

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review.

The park shop is generally open from 9am - 10.30am every morning and 4pm - 6pm on an evening (although later at weekends). The reason for this is that the majority of our guests go out for days visiting local attractions/shops, walking, cycling etc and rather than twiddling our thumbs in the shop waiting for them all to come back, we would rather staff be cleaning toilets, maintaining the grounds and all the bits behind the scenes that guests don't see us doing. That said, having taken your comments into consideration, we may trial some longer hours just to calculate demand whilst ensuring that other tasks are still carried out.

Thanks.

Great site and extremely helpful staff.

Fantastic playground for children, huge pitches so don't feel on top of other campers. Good shower and washing facilities. Lovely setting.

Owners sent a really concise email the day before with weather, travel news etc and map of how to find the pitch. So organised and efficient.

    Disliked:

    Disliked:

The only thing that let it down where the people next to where up playing swing ball until 2am which isn't great when you have young children trying to sleep and even though there are signs up saying after 11pm is quiet time

From the manager...

Many thanks for your review. I'm sorry that you were disturbed by other guests. Staff patrol the site between 11pm and midnight to ensure that noise levels are low and quiet time is being respected by all guests. I can only assume that guests got up once we had completed our checks - we are on the park 24/7 so would have been happy to have had words with the noise makers had we been made aware of the problem.

Thanks,
Beki

We booked as a couple to camp as our friends had booked an electric hook up for camping. We didn't want to travel far from home and the journey was only 1 hour away.
When arriving it was clearly sign posted and the website gave great directions. The reception staff were brilliant and easily found a perfect spot to pitch.
The children could play freely on the field whilst we watched them and the dog loved it too. Great dog walk too :-)
I have normally thought that the toilet and shower blocks would be dirty and grim but these were in excellent condition and very clean and tidy and open all night long and well lit.
The local pub was amazing for a short stroll and also dog friendly.
one of the best camp sites we have ever stayed at in the UK!!!

From the manager...

Many thanks for taking the time the review the park. Im sorry you feel we have too many rules and I am eager to discuss this with you if you would like to contact me at your convenience. We simply ask for quiet time at 11pm and for everyone to respect the people around them - something that most campers appreciate.

Directions

Robin Hood Caravan Park is situated on the B1257, Malton to Helmsley Road, in the village of Slingsby.

Important notice for SatNav users:

We are aware that when using a satellite navigation system drivers are taken to the wrong entrance to the park.

Please be aware that guests should use the main entrance on the B1257 and not the entrance on Green Dyke Lane.

We would ask that you re-route the final part of your journey to ensure that you use the correct entrance and avoid using your satellite navigation system when finding the park.

From the north (Whitby): take the A169 road to Malton via Pickering then join the B1257 to Helmsley. After 6 miles you will come to Slingsby and we have direct access on the right hand side.

From the north (Thirsk): take the A170 road towards Helmsley. Then take a right turn onto the B1257 towards Slingsby and Malton. Follow this road for 6 miles until you reach Slingsby. Robin Hood Caravan Park is the third turning on the left.

From south/west: take the M1, A1, A64 via York to Barton Hill. Turn left following signs to Slingsby via Castle Howard. At the crossroads in Slingsby turn right and Robin Hood Caravan Park is on the left.

From east: take the A64 to Malton. At the traffic lights in Malton turn right and follow the B1257 towards Helmsley. After 6 miles you will come to Slingsby and Robin Hood Caravan Park is on the right.

Local attractions

This is an ideal base from which to explore the lush landscapes of Yorkshire, from the Wolds to the Moors. It’s also easy to get to the Yorkshire coastline and the resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Whitby, all with lots to see and do.

For ramblers and cyclists, the Cleveland Way and Wolds Way both pass nearby, and there's diverse territory to explore, from wild moorland to dense forest, with plenty of lovely villages (and excellent pubs) in between.

Harry Potter fans and locomotive lovers alike will enjoy a trip aboard the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which chuffs its way across 18 miles of scenery and includes a stop at Goathland, the terminus for the Hogwarts Express.

Fifteen miles away is the ancient city of York, where visitors can yomp around the city walls, be humbled by the majesty of the Minster, or take in one of the myriad museums and attractions.

The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum are both highly recommended, and bloodthirsty bairns will enjoy York Dungeons and the growling Vikings in the reconstructions at the brilliant Jorvik Viking Centre. The streets are jam-packed with tearooms, restaurants, bars and interesting independent shops: try Stonegate, Swinegate and the medieval Shambles for the best of the shopping.

Castle Howard is very close by: take in the eighteenth century architecture and interiors, roam around the gardens, woods and lakes, and keep the kids amused with a boat trip or a romp around the adventure playground. The packed events programme includes regular arts, crafts and produce markets, concerts and themed weekends.

Also nearby are the Eden Camp World War II museum, Flamingoland adventure park and zoo, Dalby Forest and the treetop adventures of Go Ape.
