General

  • Well-maintained quiet family park close to Scarborough town centre
  • Excellently set for days at Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington
  • Bar, restaurant, two play areas and games room

How do you fancy a family hol in a family-run park near smashing Scarborough – but in a serene and sheltered setting surrounded by woodland and wide open North Yorkshire countryside?

Giddy up to Jacobs Mount Caravan Park, on the edge of the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve but only two miles from the town centre and beaches of North Yorkshire's seaside capital – and within easy trotting distance of other county attractions like Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington if your tastes tend to towns, and the North York Moors, hiking and biking routes, Dalby Forest, steamy vintage railways and a whole heap more if you're more of a countryside connoisseur.

Although it's a quiet family park, Jacobs Mount is well set up with facilities and entertainment: the live goings-on in the pub will keep you amused of an evening, and there's also a restaurant, two play areas and a games room. Barbecues are allowed and a shop is on site for essentials.

Amenities are well covered here too, with heated shower blocks, disabled facilities, a launderette, a washing-up area and a parent and baby washroom.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

A charge of £0.40 applies for the use of shower.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The bar is closed in the evening from Sunday to Friday in low season. Check the main board at reception for opening times.

    Very little - nothing

    Disliked:

10 Amp electric constantly tripping, electric must be pre-paid onto a card, stayed three nights, first night the electric meter used £5 and left us with no electric the next morning, the Guy in the reception couldnt believe it and pointed his finger at my misuse of the electricity. Following this we found ourselves constantly checking the meter for the credit level, this in itself spoiled the weekend as it is constantly on your mind.
When leaving the site the electric meter process is ridiculous with many people having to return to their pitch to recharge the prepaid card at the meter for a refund of unused electric.
    Toilets are not the cleanest.
Additional costs electricity aside, showers, hairdryers, internet. All expensive.
Too many long term stayers, these people tend to make newcomers very uncomfortable.
Long term stayers not looking after their caravans, some of which are an eyesore, the site needs quality control or remove these people.
Access to some of the pitches is difficult, and the grass verges are damaged in many locations.
We booked a fully serviced pitch and after giving the size of our outfit we were placed on a pitch that only just sufficed, to top this off we were told not to park on the grass, leaving very little room to park without obstructing the very narrow access road.
May I suggest that you charge the going rate for your pitches, get rid of all the additional charges, this in turn will save yourselves lots of grief and additional work.

Local attractions

Splendid seaside days are easily had at Scarborough, two miles from Jacobs Mount Caravan Park and home to the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary, the Rotunda Museum and the North Cliff and South Cliff golf clubs alongside its two beaches (shore fishing from here is rightly recommended too).

Also rightly recommended in the area are days at Filey for birdwatching at Filey Brigg, Bridlington for the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs, and Whitby for abbey, fish and chips and Goths lurking gloomily among the churchyard tombstones. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts at Filey for those who fancy a hike or an amble.

As it's North Yorkshire, history is all around too: potter along to the historic highlights of the Cleveland Way like Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey, or have a city day out in York to see its magnif minster, the Jorvik Viking Museum and many tiny cobbled streets.

Must see

  • Dalby Forest Visitor Centre (10.3 miles)
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (14.0 miles)
  • Burton Agnes Hall (15.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (8.8 miles)
  • Yorkshire Coast (9.5 miles)
