General

  • Well-maintained quiet family park close to Scarborough town centre
  • Excellently set for days at Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington
  • Bar, restaurant, two play areas and games room

How do you fancy a family hol in a family-run park near smashing Scarborough – but in a serene and sheltered setting surrounded by woodland and wide open North Yorkshire countryside?

Giddy up to Jacobs Mount Caravan Park, on the edge of the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve but only two miles from the town centre and beaches of North Yorkshire's seaside capital – and within easy trotting distance of other county attractions like Whitby, Pickering, Filey or Bridlington if your tastes tend to towns, and the North York Moors, hiking and biking routes, Dalby Forest, steamy vintage railways and a whole heap more if you're more of a countryside connoisseur.

Although it's a quiet family park, Jacobs Mount is well set up with facilities and entertainment: the live goings-on in the pub will keep you amused of an evening, and there's also a restaurant, two play areas and a games room. Barbecues are allowed and a shop is on site for essentials.

Amenities are well covered here too, with heated shower blocks, disabled facilities, a launderette, a washing-up area and a parent and baby washroom.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

A charge of £0.40 applies for the use of shower.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The bar is closed in the evening from Sunday to Friday in low season. Check the main board at reception for opening times.

    Location was good

    Disliked:

I found when booking in the ladies behind the counter were rude and abrupt

To say you have to pay for showers and family room to have a bath / shower they are unkept and dirty in desperate need of updating

There is a curfew cannot be out later then 11pm as barriers locked

People who come here without kids shouldn't expect kids to sit and not move from table, they have come to enjoy them selves and play!!!!

From the manager...

Well what can we say, you can tell the people who abandon the kids or let them rule and don't like being pulled up. Barriers do lock at 11 pm and open at 8 am for security and cards are that need to have access with in this time are done so upon arrival after being asked.
Showers and family room cleaned regularly even after unruly kids with cards given by the parent continuously try to mucky them up.
All for children to have fun but we should not be the only ones responsible for them...
Thank you for your review.

We have been to many sites but this one by far has been the worst 09/08/2017

Mains drain for the convenience & hard standing pitches toilets showers fairly clean

    Disliked:

Pitches very small ,we were put with seasonal tourers of which two were staying have never been on such a site with so many caravans but no-one in them not much of holiday spirit in this location & wasn't advised of this on arrival!
Games room smells fusty & is depressing
Play area looks great on website but in reality is shaded always damp kids never left there without being filthy needs updating & more chippings awful!
Electric is extra on a "smart card" this is a bad system & you have to retrieve unused electric back onto card it is a clat on your departure day bad enough trying to negotiate the tight space for yokking on without this added frustration
showers still have the press button so this isn't an 8 minute shower as stated 40p tokens -another annoyance
We paid £10 for the week for WiFi which I was assured would give us good connection Never got connection in caravan only near park
Kettle forever trips out if anything else is running
    Television loses signal regularly

Overall a good base on a friendly, quiet well maintained site. 09/08/2017

  • Camping pod (2 adults and 3 children)

  • Liked:

We originally booked a pod but unfortunately there had been an error and there were no pods available for that weekend but kindly Jacobs Mount put us in one of their cottages for the same fee! Excellent customer service and a lovely well equipped place to stay for a lovely break! It was clean, although a little tired in some areas but no real complaints, good position in the park.

    Disliked:

Only grumble was there was only one pillow for each bed but definitely not something to spoil the stay.

Local attractions

Splendid seaside days are easily had at Scarborough, two miles from Jacobs Mount Caravan Park and home to the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough SEA LIFE Sanctuary, the Rotunda Museum and the North Cliff and South Cliff golf clubs alongside its two beaches (shore fishing from here is rightly recommended too).

Also rightly recommended in the area are days at Filey for birdwatching at Filey Brigg, Bridlington for the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs, and Whitby for abbey, fish and chips and Goths lurking gloomily among the churchyard tombstones. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts at Filey for those who fancy a hike or an amble.

As it's North Yorkshire, history is all around too: potter along to the historic highlights of the Cleveland Way like Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey, or have a city day out in York to see its magnif minster, the Jorvik Viking Museum and many tiny cobbled streets.

Must see

  • Dalby Forest Visitor Centre (10.3 miles)
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (14.0 miles)
  • Burton Agnes Hall (15.5 miles)

National Trust

  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (8.8 miles)
  • Yorkshire Coast (9.5 miles)
