General

  • Take your pick of tent and motorhome pitches or hire a deluxe caravan
  • Award-winning facilities, including indoor heated pool
  • Pro-pooches, so feel free to bring your dog along too

Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – you can pitch wherever you like in the roomy tent field and take your pick from pitches that are sheltered, gently sloping, flat or with a sea view overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Not a tent fan? Crows Nest also has standard and luxury tourer/ motorhome pitches close to a toilet and shower block, or you can travel extra light and nest down in a fully-equipped deluxe caravan with TV, DVD player and Freeview.

Crows Nest Caravan Park is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, family bar with pool tables, a games room, play area close to the tent field for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. (Safety is also a priority in the tent field, which is next to the play area and fenced off from the clifftop.)

The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field and has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a pot wash area, launderette, chemical disposal point and a well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a takeaway (but do have more in Scarborough too).

Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar.

Toilet and shower facilities warm clean and spacious. Nice pool with slides for the kids.

    Disliked:

Tight for driving round the top touring part due to how people park in front of there vans. Also my son had a problem with a teddy grabber and I was told it wasn’t there machine so I’d have to go to reception in the morning to sort it out. Could have just given him his money back.

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving feedback. The bar staff are instructed not to simply give refunds for machine problems, as i am sure you can imagine this would very quickly be abused by quick thinking individuals or by people simply not understanding how the machines work. Instead problems are reported to the machine operators who investigate and then refunds are provided.

We’ve just returned from crows nest, and after seeing all the horror stories online over the easter weekend due to the terrible weather, I have to admit that I’m pretty relieved we booked where we did. We had a fully serviced hardstanding pitch on the top field and were close to the new toilet block and the kids play area, which was perfect for us. Unfortunately we didn’t get to sample all the site has to offer, we didn’t go in the bar or watch any entertainment. We did order fish and chips from the onsite chippy, which were delicious and reasonable priced (and the folks working there were lovely too).

    Disliked:

The shop onsite doesn't have a great choice, but the Jet petrol station at the end of the road is well stocked with a variety of food and drink.
My reasons for not giving 5 stars is the showers only stay on for 5 seconds so you have to constantly keep pressing the button, there was no soap in the ladies this morning. Also, you can only get WiFi in the entertainment areas, not on the pitches.

From the manager...

Hi Joanne,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us at Crows Nest. We are certainly pleased that we have all weather pitches as standard now, they have been amazing this week.

Just to explain your negative comments:
- As Easter is early and there is such a large gap between Easter and the May Day weekend, we could not fully stock the shop up to its 'summer' levels for perishable items. We would simply have to throw the majority of it away. We see the petrol station as a great benefit to us as it is open 24/7 and is well stocked throughout the quieter seasons.
- Over the last 10 years we have suffered greatly trying to provide the whole park with wifi. We have been through 3 systems but we could never manage to provide a good system with reliable broadband at the speed customers now demand. Our speed from BT Fibre is pretty terrible before we even think about sharing it (9mb down / 0.5mb up). We have decided this year to have a central hub which can provide fast and free wifi for those who need it.
- We will have a look at the showers, i agree they should stay on longer than 5 seconds.

We hope to see you again soon at Crows Nest.

Directions

Crows Nest Caravan Park is situated just off the main Scarborough to Filey coast road (A165), five miles south of Scarborough and two-and-a-half miles north of Filey.

From the north (Whitby)
Take the A171 road to Scarborough then join the A165 signposted to Filey. After five miles you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn left at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the north (Thirsk)
Take the A170 road to Scarborough then join the B1261 to Gristhorpe. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the south
Take the M18 to the M62 (east) to Howden. Follow the A164 to Bridlington, then join the A165 road to Scarborough. Two-and-a-half miles north of Filey you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn right at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the west
Take the A64 road to Scarborough (via York). After a series of roundabouts turn right at the roundabout with a McDonalds restaurant on the corner, follow this road until you meet the B1261. Turn right here signposted towards Filey. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and there are discount day tickets available to keep more money for seaside rock.

The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort and the ‘Brighton of the north’: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides, but Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year.

Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route.

There’s more birdwatching at Bridlington, with the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs nearby, but if that’s making the kids twitchy fly along to the town itself instead for bathing around the quay and promenading around the gardens, or go north from Scarborough for wacky Whitby, home of more delish fish and chips and guided tours on Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour (don’t tell the kids it’s a replica).

Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
