General

  • Take your pick of tent and motorhome pitches or hire a deluxe caravan
  • Award-winning facilities, including laundrette and supermarket
  • Pro-pooches, so feel free to bring your dog along too

Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – you can pitch wherever you like in the roomy tent field and take your pick from pitches that are sheltered, gently sloping, flat or with a sea view overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Not a tent fan? Crows Nest also has standard and luxury tourer/motorhome pitches close to a loo and shower block, or you can travel extra light and nest down in a fully-equipped deluxe caravan with TV, DVD player and Freeview.

Crows Nest Caravan Park is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, family bar with pool tables, a games room, play area close to the tent field for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. (Safety is also a priority in the tent field, which is next to the play area and fenced off from the clifftop.)

The loo and shower block is a short walk from the tent field, was fully updated in 2012 and has already won a Loo of the Year award: it has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a pot wash area, launderette, chemical disposal point and a well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a takeaway (but do have more in Scarborough too).

Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar.

Please note

The indoor swimming pool is open between 14/04 and 30/09.

Facilities/activities including swimming pool (£2 per person per day) are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The swimming pool is open from Easter to the end of September.

Group bookings of 4 or more people (excluding couples) where over 50% of the guests are same sex are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Everything. Staff were welcoming when first arrived and very friendly and helpful. Site was well laid out and in a great location, plenty of things nearby for family days out. Toilets were clean and we really like the idea of the family bathroom. With 2 young children this made getting showered and changed a lot easier. The children's park was nice and well maintained. The evening entertainment was great, our children particularly enjoyed the magic show. The entertainer was brilliant and very good with children. The shop was well stocked and a good convenience. The fish and chip shop was lovely and a nice touch. We liked being near the top of the cliffs and the walks were lovely with great views. We had a 5 night stay and the children didn't want to leave!

The sea view is amazing, the location is great for visiting lots of different places and the facilities were kept clean. Kids loved the park.

    Disliked:

Vast majority of pitches are on a slope. We luckily found a fairly flat one. Kids entertainment was pretty basic at the club and the pool was very small and super busy. Very windy as so high up and it's a shame the access to the beach is such a difficult climb down

Directions

Crows Nest Caravan Park is situated just off the main Scarborough to Filey coast road (A165), five miles south of Scarborough and two-and-a-half miles north of Filey.

From the north (Whitby)
Take the A171 road to Scarborough then join the A165 signposted to Filey. After five miles you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn left at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the north (Thirsk)
Take the A170 road to Scarborough then join the B1261 to Gristhorpe. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the south
Take the M18 to the M62 (east) to Howden. Follow the A164 to Bridlington, then join the A165 road to Scarborough. Two-and-a-half miles north of Filey you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn right at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the west
Take the A64 road to Scarborough (via York). After a series of roundabouts turn right at the roundabout with a McDonalds restaurant on the corner, follow this road until you meet the B1261. Turn right here signposted towards Filey. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and there are discount day tickets available to keep more money for seaside rock.

The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort and the ‘Brighton of the north’: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides, but Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year.

Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route.

There’s more birdwatching at Bridlington, with the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs nearby, but if that’s making the kids twitchy fly along to the town itself instead for bathing around the quay and promenading around the gardens, or go north from Scarborough for wacky Whitby, home of more delish fish and chips and guided tours on Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour (don’t tell the kids it’s a replica).

Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.

Must see

  • Burton Agnes Hall (12.3 miles)
  • Dalby Forest Visitor Centre (14.5 miles)
  • North Yorkshire Moors Railway (17.9 miles)

National Trust

  • Yorkshire Coast (13.3 miles)
  • Bridestones, Crosscliff and Blakey Topping (13.3 miles)
