General

  • Take your pick of tent and motorhome pitches or hire a deluxe caravan
  • Award-winning facilities, including indoor heated pool
  • Pro-pooches, so feel free to bring your dog along too

Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – you can pitch wherever you like in the roomy tent field and take your pick from pitches that are sheltered, gently sloping, flat or with a sea view overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Not a tent fan? Crows Nest also has standard and luxury tourer/ motorhome pitches close to a toilet and shower block, or you can travel extra light and nest down in a fully-equipped deluxe caravan with TV, DVD player and Freeview.

Crows Nest Caravan Park is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, family bar with pool tables, a games room, play area close to the tent field for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. (Safety is also a priority in the tent field, which is next to the play area and fenced off from the clifftop.)

The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field and has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a pot wash area, launderette, chemical disposal point and a well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a takeaway (but do have more in Scarborough too).

Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar.

Really nice site with views over the sea. Clean toilet block. Really liked how the bar had different areas. One area showing sports, one with entertainment and a conservatory with no entertainment. Did not use the pool or shop.

Good site. Family orientated. 06/06/2018

  • Liked:

Large overflow field for tents, which meant we got a spot at late notice for the Bank Holiday Weekend. Ground was good for putting tent pegs in - not stoney at all! Well-stocked site shop, which was very reasonably priced. Bar was good - we watched the magician on the Sunday night, which our children enjoyed. We didn’t use the pool but it looked like it would keep kids amused for a couple of hours. Great walk along the cliff front to Cayton Bay - easily reached from the site. Nice kids’ playground area too.

    Disliked:

The toilet block is small and basic. If you’re in the overflow field then it can be a long walk! Portaloos were in our field - possibly just there as peak time? I saw cleaners clean and restock them in the morning but by evening they were pretty grim. Not an issue if you’re in a caravan, and not too much of an issue if you’re in a tent and not too fussed about amazing toilet blocks. This is mentioned by way of improvement for the owners, but it would not put us off staying again, as overall it’s a good site.

Everything is clean and tidy. The fish and chip shop food was excellent, there is a swimming pool with slides which though small looked good, USB charging points in the toilets for mobiles etc. The so was very well stocked with probably everything you could possibly want. Check in was efficient and helpful.

    Disliked:

The campers near us were rowdy which is not the camp site's fault but if one thing was lacking it was someone who walked round at night and kept a check on what was happening. You don't want drunks shouting, singing and playing music at 12.30am. I've camped for years and not experienced anything quite like it.

It was so full, in other words over booked that we had a difficult time finding a place to put our trailer tent. Staff in the office and a supposedly man sent from the office were rude and careless about our situation. There were other people like us, too.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review. We completely disagree with your claims regarding your pitch. You quite literally chose a pitch 1ft away from another persons tent. Whilst i understand you wanted a sea view, you had no care whatsoever the affect that this would have on anybody else camping with us at that time. The people next door quite rightly came to the office and complained about you. The management came to ask you to move to a pitch where there was sufficient space for your tent, only to be greeted by a torrent of abuse from the gentleman in your party.

Funnily enough we have a 5* review on another website from the person who's tent you had tried to pitch next to complimenting our staff and the speed which we reacted.

Loved it, brilliant facilities and clean. Entertainment ace ‘Snatch’ (now then!!! That was the name of the band) chippy is excellent, swimming pool not overpopulated nor was camping spots and it was bank holiday weekend, Staff were great. We have spent many times at a campsite not too far away that rhymes with craven!!! Which I may say is not even nearly as good as Crows Nest 😜 “WE WILL BE BACK”

Directions

Crows Nest Caravan Park is situated just off the main Scarborough to Filey coast road (A165), five miles south of Scarborough and two-and-a-half miles north of Filey.

From the north (Whitby)
Take the A171 road to Scarborough then join the A165 signposted to Filey. After five miles you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn left at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the north (Thirsk)
Take the A170 road to Scarborough then join the B1261 to Gristhorpe. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the south
Take the M18 to the M62 (east) to Howden. Follow the A164 to Bridlington, then join the A165 road to Scarborough. Two-and-a-half miles north of Filey you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - turn right at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

From the west
Take the A64 road to Scarborough (via York). After a series of roundabouts turn right at the roundabout with a McDonalds restaurant on the corner, follow this road until you meet the B1261. Turn right here signposted towards Filey. Follow this road to the end: you will come to a roundabout with a Jet petrol station on the corner - go straight on at this roundabout. We are then the second caravan park on the left.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and there are discount day tickets available to keep more money for seaside rock.

The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort and the ‘Brighton of the north’: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides, but Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year.

Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route.

There’s more birdwatching at Bridlington, with the RSPB reserve Bempton Cliffs nearby, but if that’s making the kids twitchy fly along to the town itself instead for bathing around the quay and promenading around the gardens, or go north from Scarborough for wacky Whitby, home of more delish fish and chips and guided tours on Captain Cook’s HMS Endeavour (don’t tell the kids it’s a replica).

Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
