  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket
Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a washing-up area, launderette, chemical disposal point and well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but they do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too). Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

Upper area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: We stayed on the fully serviced pitches and really enjoyed it. The site has everything you need and even the added bonus of a pool for a rainy afternoon! There are plentiful toilets and showers which are well maintained and family rooms available.

Disliked: We found a fair bit of litter in the bushes behind our pitches, it may have just been blown about because it was a bit windy. Not enough to put us off, still a lovely site.

Lower area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: The play area is good, so is the indoor pool and bar area. Staff friendly

Disliked: Games room needs updating. Don't get me started on the WiFi...very very poor. Its the 21st century how any site can have such poor WiFi beats me. Showers need sorting out too on the lower block. Not much water pressure

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Facilities were brilliant. Well stocked shop. Parking not too bad. Staff seemed friendly enough and the site despite the weather/mud was immaculate

Disliked: Grass tenting pitches - unfortunately turned into a mud bath due to the weather, which is obviously out of the sites control. But I do think putting some kind of peat down would be beneficial. Children's play area could do with more age appropriate items for younger children. We had toddlers with us which could only really play on the smaller slide and baby swings (one of which wasn't very safe rubber coating has been worn off so just metal bar visible).

Upper area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: Open spaced pitches, didnt feel cramped. Beautiful scenic views weather permitting. On site fish and chip shop delicious. Staff that we engaged with seemed ‘friendly’, bar staff had very little in terms of conversation with you though, seemed very disinterested when conversation was attempted.

Disliked: Toilet facilities had a strong foul smell around the urinals, individual wash rooms - 1st week of the season and taps not working, toilet cubicles have furnishings hanging off. The bar - the site is declared dog friendly, however if you want to use the facilities on an evening you are treat like a second class citizen, banished to the conservatory. Which in our experience this week was freezing cold, no heating or portable heaters present, also you cant enjoy the music or tv which the guests using the lounge do. Therefore if travelling alone with a dog, better hope the dog has decent conversation as it is all you will be left with on site. No entertainment on midweek during school holidays.

Upper area fully-serviced gravel touring pitch (super)

Liked: This is a lovely site, plenty of facilities & loved the indoor swimming pool, kids loved the pool table but the games room was mainly for small kids. Will be amazing site in warmer months as rain cancelled play haha

Disliked: The only thing I didn't like was their was no WiFi where we were pitched, so not happy kids haha, will have to invest in a WiFi box to keep them happy. Plus pub didn't open till 4pm & closed at 10pm, the pub staff could be more interacting with the guests

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
