General

  • Family-friendly park ten minutes' walk from Cayton Bay
  • Indoor pool, sports court, restaurant, shop and off-licence
  • Lots of activities including kids' clubs, theme nights and film nights

Action! Whether whirling around on site or plunging into the fathoms of fab seaside things to do nearby, a stay at Cayton Bay Holiday Park near Scarborough is a buzzing option for spirited sorts: it might even – finally – tire the kids out…

All ages can look lively with the vast range of things to do at this emphatically family-friendly park, which can see the family getting sprightly around the fountains and waterjets of the indoor pool, aiming to be a little crazy at golf or bouncing around on the volleyball, netball and all-weather multisports court among loads more.

Or explore off site instead: Cayton Bay Holiday Park is four and a half miles from the attractions, amusements and beach of Scarborough’s South Bay, a trifling ten minutes’ walk from the wide sweep and sprightly surf of comely Cayton Bay, and a few miles from the very viewsome Filey to Scarborough stretch of the nearby Cleveland Way.

Cayton Bay Holiday Park is quick-fire for the kids too, with an active array of options for toddlers to teens including the Sparky Krew kids’ clubs, Pipsqueak's Mousehouse for under-fives, street dancing, cheerleading, archery and splashing around back in the pool at a deep scope of water activities.

You can be busy indoors or out here from dawn to dusk – and then beyond with theme nights, movie nights, quizzes and the cabaret, disco, dancing and other entertainment at the roomy Oasis Showbar (with lots of opps for the audience to join in with the merriment).

Food is served up at the Boathouse Restaurant which also does takeaway, and there’s a supermarket and off-licence to stock up on your own supplies.

We just came back from 3 night camping trip in ... 21/08/2017

We just came back from 3 night camping trip in Cayton Bay. It was 5 of us: 2 adults and 3 children (one of them is a 3 year old). Cayton Bay Holiday Park staff greeted us very friendly and were very helpful and nice during our stay. Campsite is on the big green field and thanks to no cars allowed (except for the pitch up and breaking tent) grass is green and not muddy. The field is big enough and there are no assigned pitches which I like because you get to choose your own spot. We were very lucky as we met lots of lovely and very helpful campers on our trip. Our days were filled with activities. Pool is really great for children and it has one small area for (adult) swimmers. All of us enjoyed the slides and fountains. After our pool session we liked going to the beach which is 10-15 min away (walking). It's a very scenic walk but it's not easy if you have small children. But it's totally worth it because beach is so clean! Water has got 3 star (excellent) rating. We loved the beach! After the beach kids loved running around the tents, playing in adventure playground and a small soft play area. In the evenings, we loved going to arcades and watching entertainment. It's really very good at keeping us busy. Now my only gripe is that the campsite is in a noisy location. It didn't bother my family but I am a light sleeper so it wasn't good for me. Campsite is located right behind the entertainment centre which is good because it's close but very noisy at night time. Thanks god music was to my liking so I didn't mind staying up and listening :). Another minus to campsite is the proximity to the road. And it's a busy road. So you hear cars roaring past at all hours of the night. My family loved their holiday and we made some great memories. My husband fell in love with the beach and is itching to come back again soon but for me... I really need to think about it because of the noise levels. A deal breaker for sensitive sleepers. So, I do recommend it but do invest in good ear plugs ;)
P.S. shower and toilet facilities were good enough. It was plenty of it and reasonably clean. Water pressure could be better in showers and washing up facilities really could do with a better water supply.

    Disliked:

    Noisy location
    Poor water pressure

Beautiful location, beach shops entertainment. Pitch site was ideal. Would come again but needs minor alterations as explained below.

    Disliked:

Showers were too small, floors constantly dirty,so after showering no where to stand And dry as floor was wet with dirty water, and plug holes full of hair so was blocked, maybe provide slip Matt's like the pool area. Poor hot water supply when trying to wash pots, just literally trickled out. So took ages to wash up.

Local attractions

The beaut beach of Cayton Bay is within walking distance and has a surf school catering to all levels alongside board and wetsuit hire.

Like most of this part of Yorkshire coast, this beach is an eggs-cellent spot for birdwatching, and fossil hunters find rich pickings here too in the form of gastropods, starfish and coral.

Ornithologists should also flutter along the coast to Flamborough Head and Bempton Cliffs to gaze at the only colony of gannets on the British mainland, viewable even on wet days via the CCTV at the Flamborough Head visitor centre.

For fledglings, Malton’s Flamingo Land theme park and zoo is a somewhat different type of Yorkshire birdwatching and has lemurs, giraffes, meerkats and other critters alongside its penguins, parrots and Bird Display Experience.

North Yorkshire’s seaside capital Scarborough is a quick drive from Cayton Bay Holiday Park – or catch a bus from the stop ten minutes’ walk from the site.

There’s loads to do here alongside pounding out sandcastles on the North and South beaches: hang around the harbour to land some fresh fish and seafood at the fish market, climb the cliff to see spectacular scenery from 3000 year old Scarborough Castle, or cultivate an artsy side at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Rotunda Museum and the summer concerts of the Scarborough Spa Orchestra, the only seaside orchestra in the UK.

Have a day in Filey for a less busy seaside resort than Scarborough – and a nosy around the cafés, shops, amusements of Filey Coble Landing to the north of the seafront; fishing cobles and smaller bobbing craft are regularly launched across the beach to the sea from here.

The Cleveland Way finishes up at Filey, and the rocks of Filey Brigg have several species of seabird alongside a five-mile length of beach dotted with rockpools.

Buses run from Filey back to Scarborough and further north along the coast to Runswick Bay, also a Yorkshire fossil hunting spot, the fab fishing village of scenic Robin Hood’s Bay, and the shellfish sampling and beaut beaches of Bridlington.

Inland from here is equally action-packed: the sporty options and more stunning scenery of the North Moors National Park, the historical highlights of grand old York, and, if you travel a little further, roaming around the history sites, caving and watersports of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
