General

  • Small family-run park over two secluded acres
  • A mile and a half from Bedale
  • Handy stopover for the A1

Off to the Yorkshire Dales? Or might you prefer the moors? Pitch up at Pembroke Caravan Park in the village of Leeming Bar: it's only a mile and a half from Bedale, the small market town with easy access to the Dales and set snugly in between both the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors national parks. (And it's a handy A1 stopover too if you're zooming up or down the country to or fro elsewhere.)

Pembroke is a friendly, family-run and popular little park set in two level and secluded acres. It has a cleanly-kept shower and toilet block, a laundry room, a chemical disposal point, and washing-up facilities. Barbecues are allowed on site.

For drinks and dins, two pubs are in the local village along with a takeaway that delivers to the site, and a small supermarket is 400 metres away. Please note that while there's no play area on site and that ball games aren't allowed, a large play area (with café) is easily accessible in the local village.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Good level pitches, quiet site and friendly staff. 28/06/2017

Very friendly and welcoming staff. The site was very clean and maintained, the facilities were clean and looked after and the site was very quiet despite being a couple of minutes from the A1 motorway. There is a dog friendly pub in Leeming Bar just a 4 minute walk from the site, with local buses every half hour to Northallerton and Bedale. There is a separate safe dog walking site just outside the caravan site and the Wensleydale railway station with links to Bedale and Leyburn just 3 minutes from the site.

Nice little family run site. Extremely well maintained and spotlessly clean. Owners were available if needed and made an effort to make us feel welcome and to ensure we had everything we needed.

    Disliked:

Nothing really. Wifi signal was weak in some areas of the site but this wasn't an issue for us, but something to be mindful of if you will definitely need it. The owners were aware of the problem and were looking into it at the time of our stay, so it could may well be sorted now.

Bit near the road for noise but you get used to it and it calms down at night.

Very nice little site and cheap. £20 for three adults per night. 10amp electric and free showers. Modern toilet block and spotlessly clean.
Has washing facilities and a pot wash. Steaming hot water. Plus the usual waste water and toilet disposal points.
Our pitch was the closest one to the road and although you can hear traffic it didn't detract from enjoying ourselves.
Nice to have a barrier at the entrance, key pad operated. Quite secure.
Site is close to RAF Leeming Bar. If you lived there the fighter jets flying over on a regular basis would eventually be a nuisance but for a week or two week stay adds some interest to the place.
Café down the road on the corner but a butty van closer does breakfasts, 3 sausage, 3 bacon 2 eggs, hash brown, beans, tomatoes and a brew. £4.20.
The pub down the road on the corner does a Sunday Lunch to die for.
    Would definitely recommend this site.

    Disliked:

Wasn't keen on there only being one shower in both the gents and ladies but realisticly didn't have a problem.

Local attractions

One of the most spiffing things about the immediate area around Pembroke Caravan Park is the recently refurbished Wensleydale Railway, a short and non-puffy stroll away at the station of Leeming Bar. This takes scenic seekers on a 22-mile journey up into the Yorkshire Dales on its route from Northallerton to Garsdale, and as it's Yorkshire, you'll rightly guess it's all highly pretty too.

Specialist local goods, services and shops are at the nearby market towns of Bedale and Northallerton, and a little further will take explorers to other worthy Yorkshire towns like Leyburn and Masham.

Many of the highlights of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales national parks are also within easy driving distance of Pembroke, like Brontë and James Herriot country, more steam railways, old ramparts like Richmond Castle and, towards the east, access to Scarborough, Whitby and the wild Yorkshire coast.

Must see

  • Jervaulx Abbey (7.6 miles)
  • Richmond Castle (9.5 miles)
  • Easby Abbey (EH) (9.7 miles)

National Trust

  • Moulton Hall (8.6 miles)
  • Braithwaite Hall (10.4 miles)
